Former Blackberry User with Nexus 6P - several questions

I honestly don't find the software on the Priv to be anymore stable than any other Android device I had/have that was released this year. I will agree that it the best of both worlds if you need or foresee using the PKB.
Not saying other manufacturers make less stable phones. Basically I'm implying that 5.1.1 is more stable than Marshmallow at this point. I still have Bluetooth issues with the 6P, plus occasional app crashes and incompatibilities. I don't have that with the Priv. I also don't have the occasional slow downs that my 6P has (still have to reboot mine 1-2 times per week to keep it running at full speed)

Ahh yeah. The cost of that bleeding edge OS, right. I get what you're saying. 5.1.1 is definitely at a point of maturity.

I'm sorry that you're experiencing than slow downs. Can't say I've come across that yet. I don't think I've rebooted my 6P in some time. I do know app compatibility with Marshmallow is definitely crucial.

(Love the Priv btw. My comment wasn't meant to be incendiary. Sorry if it came across as such.)

Not at all - just felt i had to express myself more clearly. The slowdowns I'm seeing seem to be connected with the network quality. I live in an area with lousy coverage and once the network becomes slow, so does the 6P for some reason. It's resolved after a reboot and doesn't usually happen more often than once a week.

Re: Should I switch to the 6P??

How's the vibration motor on this phone? I use the vibration mode all the time at work. Is it noticeable? I don't want to miss calls if this is quite weak as some of the videos suggest.

No complaints here, I keep mine on vibrate at work as well. And my workplace is loud with lots of activity.

Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

Long time BlackBerry user , switched to nexus 6P yesterday. Not new to Android used years ago and my wife has been using Galaxy S6 edge for a while so familiar with Android..

Already missing the BlackBerry hub !!
Two main issues so far

Gmail app doesn't seem to get notification s for gmails. I get audible notifications for other emails, bit not gmail. Anyhow this is nowhere near how good the BlackBerry email was. I hope I don't end up spending hours looking for a good email client which is what I did years ago with Android. Can't believe after all these years Android still doesn't have a proper email client inbuilt!!

The phone itself seems too big !! I guess it's not much anyone can do at this point. Funnily enough I came from BlackBerry passport which itself was so wide but didn't feel this big. I might have to get used to it.

So far not too thrilled with the phone. Bit no major complaints either. Trying to justify myself for leaving my beloved BlackBerry!!

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

What are your settings set to within Gmail? (Open Gmail, swipe from left, scroll down, select settings, select your email address)

Is notifications checked?

Do you sound, vibrate or both on? Do you have it set to once per inbox or once per message?

Looking at my gmail it looks like notifications are in the gmail settings:

Menu (three horizontal lines)>Settings>Account (xxx@gmail.com)>Notifications

LOL, my wife says she'll give up her Blackberry when they pry it from her cold dead hands.

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

Yeah, just look through your settings. I get instant push email with my gmail account. I would buy something online and get instant email notifications from Chase.

I also miss the Hub and swipe gestures but everything else about BB10 is absolute trash to me.

Yes it's checked. I unchecked and checked it again. It still doesn't work properly. Sometimes I get notifications and sometimes not. It's hit and miss.

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

Another major issue for me is Dropbox integration with email. It simply doesn't work at all. When I select a file to attach from email app, it says empty file cannot be attached. Also I cannot select more than one file at a time from Dropbox. Same command works with Google drive. The BlackBerry file manager is so beautiful and simple!!

Selecting multiple files is a Dropbox limitation with their app, that has nothing to do with Android's file manager. I would check the files you are trying to attach from your Dropbox account, I don't get any 'empty' messages.

Regarding the size, you will need to give it time to get used to. 2-3 days at least. I was like you, skeptical about the size. Now, I think it's a great size. Yes, it's big but I really like it.

Make sure you have the option "Notify for every message" checked which is in Inbox sound & vibrate options.

iCloud email on gmail app?

I've configured iCloud email on gmail app as IMAP. I only get option to fetch emails at set intervals - no push option. I'm getting instant push of icloud emails on my BlackBerry. Same setup, but I get the push option. Is the push for icloud not supported by gmail??

Re: iCloud email on gmail app?

Have you tried 'CloudMagic'? when I moved from iOS to Android I kept my iCloud email account on my phone as I transitioned to Gmail and it seemed to work OK when it came to receiving push emails.

Yes. I've tried cloudmagic before. The issue is they store all the emails on their local server which I don't want. Any other alternative s to get this working on gmail itslef??

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

I'm only getting Gmail notifications like once per day or when I manually open the app. Started in the last week or 2 I think. All of a sudden I will get a notification that has like 16 new emails in it. I used to get notifications for every email. I think I've seen someone else post about this but didn't really notice until a few days ago.

Re: Not getting notifications for Gmail on Nexus 6P

I've had problems with Gmail notifications too. It just started in the last few days. But I also have issues with Kik notifications. So I'm really at a loss to explain it.

This is what solved it for me, I usually close all my apps that I'm not using and when doing that I wouldn't get any Gmail notifications. I then just ran the Gmail app and left it in the background and the notifications started coming immediately.
