Hello to the Android community from a first-time user! I've been using a Palm Pre minus since launch on Sprint, and yesterday, thanks to a Nexus S 4G, I finally made the jump to Android-- and I have to say, I'm completely impressed. This feels very 'next-gen' compared to webOS, and I am absolutely digging the customizability that I can't get on iOS. However, I'm having a small issue with my Google Voice/GO SMS text messages, and I was hoping that someone here might be able to help!

Basically, I have a GV widget and a GoLauncher messaging widget, and both of them seem to display different text messages. The bigger issue, however, is that even though I believe I have Android set to associate outgoing texts with GoSMS, all my incoming texts come in through Google Voice, and never even make it to GoSMS. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there a global app association menu that I can't seem to find? I had Sprint convert my number to my GV number, and even though this never happened before, all of my texts are coming up in my Google Voice account-- which is fine, but I'd really like if they'd come into GoSMS! Thanks to anyone that can help me out with this!

In your GV app on the phone, go to settings, sync and notifications, and check the box that says "notify via text message"

Hmm.. thanks for the suggestion, but that just made me get two notifications at once from GV when a text came in :) I'm trying for the opposite-- I want my texts to come in to Handcent. (and I was mistaken earlier, I'm not using GoSMS, I'm using Handcent!)

Right... that option is required to get your texts to your SMS app. It does have a side-effect of double notifications unless you turn off notifications in your GV app.

Texts coming into the GV app come in via data, whereas texts coming into your SMS app need to come in via the cell network, and that is what the setting I recommended you change does (it makes the messages come in via BOTH data and cell network). Unless you disable GV integration, they will always come in via GV regardless, so you would just need to disable notifications in the GV app.

Ahh, I see. That makes sense.

Okay, so I enabled that setting, and disabled receive notifications from Google Voice. However, now I am not receiving any notification at all-- my GV widget shows that I'm receiving texts, but none of my texts are being received in my other SMS applications.

Can you log out of the google voice app?

The google voice app is great for phones not on Sprint.

Since Sprint has GV integration built in, you just need to go to google.com/voice and set up everything on there.

The GV app isn't needed on our phones. I wish it didn't come preloaded. I use GO SMS and it works great!

Hmm... Well, I signed out of GV, and now I'm not getting any texts on my phone at all. I checked GV on my computer, and they're going there but not to the phone. Oy!

Edit:
Aha! Got it! I had to re-enable forwarding to my phone from GV's settings. Thank you guys for your help!

Do you have receive texts checkmarked on the website?

Okay, that's not what I did. I'm having messages forwarded, and it's got a pretty big messge delay
. My settings don't look quite like that. One second, and I'll ccheck it out.

Okay, now I'm getting terribly confused. My phone isn't ringing when someone calls me, but I am receiving notification that I got a Google Voicemail. I already had a GV number before I switched to this Nexus, but I chose to have my number ported through Sprint/Google so now GV has replaced my phone's voicemail. Text messages are coming in with a delay of several minutes and I'm completely unable to receive calls.

Can you make outgoing calls?

That's not good!
Did you set up the google voice integration with the app on the phone or the website?

All I had to do was turn on the sprint google voice integration on the website for my phone. Then I could make and receive calls, and get sms using the stock app.
