Free apps vs paid which you use

I am paying for more apps these days, and some for work are in the paid category. If I use them a lot and there is a paid option, I hate adds, so I pony up the few bucks.

That said, most my apps are free, and don't even have a paid option.

I have apps from companies (you could say "established" ones) like LastPass, GPM, YouTube, etc. -- and then my other apps are usually paid if the option is available. I like supporting devs for apps I like to use --- such as Pocketcasts. A lot of my apps require a sub though so I have a good amount of "free" but you need a paid account to use (DirecTV Now, Netflix, etc.)

I also like Reddit a lot so when on iOS I use an app called Apollo (expensive app TBH) but worth it if you use Reddit a lot.

Even though I spent almost 50 years as a developer, I use free apps when they do the job I want, even though there may be a paid version. And paid apps when I have to pay for what I want. (Nova with Tesla, Titanium, etc.) (I also spent years as a freeware and shareware developer.)

The whole idea of Android, in my mind, looking at it as a developer, is that Android, due to its running on Linux, is free, and apps running in the emulator (or whatever you want to call a Java machine, which is what Dalvik is) should adhere to that. But I don't mind supporting the developer of an app that was obviously well thought out by someone who understood the problem they were solving by writing the app, and did it well.

I agree ..

Netflix getting higher with the cost :((
Hows reddit ? Are they trustworthy?

I used to use paid weather apps, but they track your location even when you're not using them. I canceled my subscription to those apps and I just check in a browser in chrome if I'm really worried about the weather or I use the app/widget that comes with the Pixel.

I see your concern and believe me I'm with you but this tracking looks like everyone and thing will keep doing and probably going get worst before better . So dont sweat it so much unless its really personal information you have to protect like banking to that degree.

If it's an app I frequently use and they have an ad-free paid version, I have no problem paying the money. Besides, as someone above pointed out, I haven't actually "paid" for an app in years thanks to Opinion Rewards. I've earned a total of $168.95 and have a current balance of $56.89. Pretty sweet and I'm happy to give that back to devs if possible.

That's good amount you earned.

I just started doing the Opinion Rewards, hopefully I can also accumulate that much. Can you use that money towards the next Pixel or are you locked into only buying apps?

Wonder if you can use them for buying movies or songs?

Yes. I've used it to buy music, books, rent movies, etc. I don't believe you can apply it towards hardware, though. Only apps and those other things I mentioned. I've used it for in-app purchases, too.

Good to know thanks

That is one thing I miss from Android (on my iPhone right now) -- but Google still throws us a bone from Opinion Rewards. They get around the Apple Tax of in-app $$ by having me do surveys like normal but once you hit $2 they just PayPal it to you lol.
