Free GPS kit from Asus

The router I have is new cause I just got optimum like 2 months ago, and even with other devices the connection goes in and out like sometimes my mac stops getting connection so I have to reconnect it . ya.. im really annoyed by it.. by the way does all Primes have a wifi issue or is it just mine?

@Devinator - Sure, it's wireless n. The bandwidth is good, when you're in range, but the range is not all that. The Netgear has far better range, as do the Linksys high end units. The 310N works OK with our phones, but even our laptops have range issues with it on wifi. We ended up hardwiring them to get the throughput we needed. Like I said, time for a better wifi router.

Ahh, okay, I gotcha. I don't recall having any signal strength issues with mine, but, it's been a while since I've bought a router. Don't really know how good the one you have is, but, I'll take your word for it. Like I said, I'd have to do more research to make a suggestion. The link I posted was just something I found quickly. I take it if you've messed around with it's location as well as how the antennae are setup?

Yea, I mean, that's definitely a router issue. You might want to do what I mentioned above, move it, and, mess with the antennae.

What type of router is it?

Also, even though you are 10 feet, if it's in a different room, that could cause problems. Stuff in the walls, depending on how old your house is, could cause issues, being underground, there are lots of things to consider. If you just bought it, I assume it's relatively new, so, buying a new one doesn't sound like it's going to fix your problem. Unless it was just a crappy router/brand to begin with.

Your carrier shouldn't really have anything to do with signal strength. You carrier sends data to you, your modem sends it to your router, your router then sends out a signal. Even if it's a modem router combo rented from your carrier, the device would be the problem, not your carrier.

It really depends on what hardware is involved. Some providers will use cheap junk for their wifi router devices. In that case you're usually better off disabling the integrated wifi on the "modem" buying a decent, name-brand wifi AP/router and plugging it in directly to your provider's cable/DSL modem.

Neither. I've heard other people report issues, but many people have no issues at all. How well it works for you will depend on what kind of wifi devices you're trying to connect to, your distance from the wifi device, what's between you and the wifi device that causes interference, etc. Then of course the wifi "issues" can vary as well. Some people who report issues have slower or lower-quality connections than they expect, others may perceive a different issue.

It actually doesn't depend. It's always going to be a hardware issue. It can't not be. Either they own their router and it's a hardware issue, or, it's carrier provide and it's a hardware issue. Either way, it's a hardware issue. That is the point I was trying to make. I was trying to explain to flip that it has nothing to do with the service they provide, rather, the hardware they themselves own or the ISP provides. They mentioned switching to FIOS as a solution. If they own their own router, that wont improve signal strength. If it's ISP provided, there is a chance the new ISP will rent you better hardware, which will solve the problem, but, it's still a hardware issue.

Honestly, I'd say you are always better off buying your own. Unless you get one for free. If you get it for free and it's good enough, awesome, if not, buy your own. But, if they only rent them, it's a waste of money.

Ok I'll try moving it the 1st floor instead of the basement and see if it makes a difference. I just find it weird cause all my other devices work fine such as my htc thunderbolt and it gets full bars just my tablet gets 1 or 2

I mean, if it's in the basement, that could be the issue. Lots of times basements don't go under the entire house and if the room you are in is over solid ground, and, not directly above the basement, there will be more solid interference between your device and the router.

Right, but, that could be an issue with your prime. That might be the diminished WiFi reception people are complaining about. If you have the router in the basement and are sitting at a computer upstairs, and, the computer and your phone are getting full WiFi signal, but, your Prime is only getting two bars, then, you know your Prime is having WiFi issues. Which is exactly what people have been complaining about. Just make sure if you do that test that you have all three devices right next to each other.

Is it worth to get it replaced because of wifi issue or will they just give me the same thing and ill have to hope this prime isn't having issues?

My assumption is that they all have the issue at this point. If you are unhappy with it you could ty and return it to wherever you bought it. I think the next Asus tablet is supposed to address some of the issues like WiFi and GPS. But, I think it really all boils down to, are you having issues with the data being to slow. Even if it says two bars and you aren't having any problems, it doesn't really matter. If you are experiencing long load times, can't stream, etc. then that is a problem. I was experiencing streaming issues the other day. I need to do some more testing to see if it's really an issue or not . If it is, I dunno what I'll do. Because, that would be the only issue I've had so far. I love my Prime.:D

Wow I really wish they made a wifi dongle instead of a gps one lol. I watched this video on youtube and the reason why the wifi is off is because the gps I think is messing with it and also I think the wifi antennas aren't touching or something so Idk I was thinking the gps dongle will do something. I'm praying

Yea, I mean, a WiFi dongle would be nice. If it is indeed the aluminum housing that is causing the problem, and, you have a dock, you could always try a wireless USB dongle. I have one lying around somewhere. I had someone use it once to play WoW in a basement when the router was upstairs. So, as far as I know, they work well. You might want to try something like that if you have one lying around. Might not be worth it if you aren't having any issues other than only getting two bars. Like I said before, if the speed isn't an issue, don't focus on the signal strength.

ya I know what you mean, well If there is a point really can't stream my youtube videos on HD up here ill def consider one if not i'll leave it, thanks for the suggestion though.

Anytime Flip. I still have to test out streaming myself. If I have trouble with it and come across a solution that we didn't talk about it, I'll post something here or shoot you a PM. And, if I have trouble, but can't get it worked out, I'll be contacting Asus. :p

No email confirmation but on the status portion of the Asus member site, it says it has now shipped. Check your status and see if its been updated.

Yea, mine is shipped. Last time I checked it wasn't even displaying that I had ordered one, even though I had seen it there before. I think they were having issues that day. But, now it says it's shipped. An email would have been nice though. :p

I signed up Monday, and it still says application received for mine.

I'm sure they have a huge backlog of processing to do. Everyone who has bought a Prime is probably signed up for one.
