I remember a similar offer last year (I forget by whom), but it turned out they wanted to falsely inflate their Amazon sales figures by sending money to my PayPal account and then having me "purchase" the case on Amazon, instead of simply sending me a free case. I declined to participate. I have no idea whether this offer is similar.

Many vendors store their inventory on Amazon so that is where it is shipped from. When its a free promotion you sometimes pay for it up front and get reimbursed or are sent promo codes to order.

Yes, a promo code would make sense to me (could be a one-time code, different for each recipient). Then Amazon would send the product for free, and would know it's not a real sale.

I'm not sure its distinguished any differently. I'm not saying its not....I just don't know enough about Amazon.

Yeah, I don't know for sure either. But the other thing that made me suspicious last year was that the vendor in that instance was insisting that I order a N10 case along with a N10+ case, even though I pointed out that I only have an N10+ and would be unable to review the other case. All in all, it didn't make enough sense to seem legit.

When I signed up, it asked if I had a PayPal account, which I assumed might be for a shipping charge. It didn't say that though, nor did it say you have to have a PP account. Sign up anyway. If it doesn't work because of not having PP, it will tell you.
