I did not want to pay ATT $30 dollars a month for text service. But i do get about 50 text a month. Any feedback on free text programs that do not require a separate phone number or should i just pay the .20 cents per text ATT charges?

Try google voice. A lot of people use it and seems to be sufficient. And if you're already using it for voicemail then that 1 less app/service you need.

Google Voice SMS

I think Whatsapp and several others offer SMS via wifi. Do a play store search and you will find several.

I think they all require a separate number. If you are lucky you can get a similar number to you phone number on google voice. Mine is the same except the middle 3, i.e. same area code, different exchange code, same number

How do u use Google voice for texting? I've never done it. I know there's settings that have to be changed.

Yeah, I use it instead of having a text plan. When I started using it a couple years ago I really didn't text at all. Now I do with family, mostly. Of course you can use facebook to text too, which may be the easiest solution.
