One of the unexpected benefits of the Galaxy Nexus was that if you used the app SwitchPro, you could tether your phone without the Verizon $20 surcharge per month for tethering.
When I use the same app on the Razr, it automatically goes to check if my account includes tethering, thus no free tether.

Looks like the rules have changed to our favor based on the linked article below. Now you should be able to use your monthly paid for data which ever way you wish... kinda cool!

When I had the Nexus and used SwitchPro a couple of times there was no charge. there is a long long thread about it in the Nexus forum.

doesnt mean they wont find a way to charge us in some other way. no company will take a loss like that without increasing "usage charges" in some other way.

just use foxfi and tell verizon to suck it.

I have read it a few times, a few different places, and I think it is all in the interpretation of the ruling. They way I have seen it written a few times is that if you pay for a tier data plan (i.e. 2GB / 4 GB / etc), you can not be charges for tethering. Obviously, Verizon knew this was coming and that is why they changed it so tethering is free in the new "share everything" plans.

Based on an article that I read on either CNN.com or Foxnews.com this morning, it still apears that anyone who has unlimited data will still have to pay for tethering, because they are not on a "Tiered" plan.

How true it is, I am not sure. I have never really needed to tether before, but I have foxfi just in case I ever need to.

Personally, I would either use FoxFi or load a custom AOSP ROM... it's a great world to be Rooted!!!
