Free Upgrade to a Droid Razor from defective Bionics

I talked to VZW about a week ago, I was offered "any 4g &/or Dual Core" I'd like as a replacement...
The Razor is the only one I was willing to take, but not having a removable battery & the charging port on the top were both deal breakers...

After deciding I was going to keep with the Bionic, he let me know VZW is having some-kind of data issue with all of their 4g phones...
I keep getting credits for the lack of data... I just have to keep-up with the calls complaining about the issue.

After several months, VZW offered me the same thing, however the Razr has to come off of "Iconic Device" status which will be in the next 3-4 weeks. Then they will send me the NEW device. It will be no cost, but I'm frustrated with the known issues on this device and their lack of responsiveness.

I called Verizon today, after about 4 people and 50ish minuites they agreed to send me a Nexus. Also after telling them about the extended battery i just got for my Bionic, they are sending me a free one too. Long story short if you don't like your phone Verizon will give you a different one.:D

I have to bring mine in for my Wifi issue I stated in another thread. Already went up to tier 2 Moto tech support and they said it was bad. Wonder if I will get the same deal. This IS the phone I have to have on me at all times being military so I can't be out from it for even a day, must be able to be reached 24/7. My friend who went in last week for a cracked screen got a nexus too.

Former grunt here, former owner of a Galaxy Nexus. I still do a lot of my times outdoors and in remote areas (solely for relaxation now). I dont know what branch you are in and what your MOS is but I had to turn my GN back in because of battery life and signal reception issues. Don't get me wrong. As a device in an urban setting the GN is amazing. It just falls short when it comes to being a phone.

I picked up a Bionic off of craigslist to tide me over while I thought about what phone I wanted. The most important criteria for me were signal reception and battery life. I know that a lot of folks are having Bionic problems. Mine has been for the most part trouble free. I will say that battery life and signal reception for my Bionic has been heads and shoulders beyond what I was getting with my GN.

I am now considering between a Rezound or Razr MAXX. I am leaning MAXX because no one does a radio like Motorola and with a 3100 mAmp battery I ought to be able to get about 14 hours out of it. For me that is what works. Yes the Rezound has a better screen, camera, and they have made leaps and bounds with their radio, but for me, and possibly for you and others, the reasons I listed above may be more important.

Never heard of this status. I received a Razr to replace my Bionic several weeks ago. Took a bit of persuasion from me with tech support (was initially offered a Charge, Rezound and something else. I politely declined and held firm).

Welp they ordered me a "certified refurbished" Bionic since it wasn't a catastrophic loss like my friend who had his replaced on the spot with a Nexus. Least I get to keep the same phone considering I have a few hundred dollars in accessories. Yeah would have been cool to get a Nexus but my friend who works at VZW has one and was telling me tonight when i was in store that his only complaint about the phone was horrible battery life and something of a nuisance he mentioned was the coloring of the text window (really white in comparison to the black menu's for the rest of the phone). The rest of the phone was awsome though. In the end i am getting a replacement and hope to god this replacement doesn't have any different issues that others have been experiencing.

I'm getting a razr ... Kinda sad but after quite a few replacements Verizon gave me the option... They told me it was an issue with all of the bionics but my area wouldn't work with them... BS but still i'm moving to a razr... So long guys

got off the phone today with VZW and I was offered the Rezound, Fascinate, and some LG phone to begin with but no RAZR(not a fan of the non-removable battery so it wasn't an issue), after politely declining and asking them to check the account; they see I talked to someone yesterday and now I'm being sent a GNex with extended battery. now I will have a vzw extended battery case combo holster for a bionic and a standard battery and door for a bionic I won't have a use for.. weee

I love my new GNex. loved my Bionic but couldn't take it any more. See ya on the Nexus forum it was a fun few months.

Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I am now being shipped my 3rd replacement bionic. No matter what I say or how many times I call no tier two rep will offer me a different phone they claim unable to do it. Not sure if it matters or not but my account is a business account........ Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Keep calling. Be persistent. Obviously the Bionic isn't working for you. They certainly can, they may need to check with a supervisor but it can be done. I guess as to speak to a supervisor if they still balk.

I had 4 Bionics (original + 3 replacements) before Verizon relented and upgraded me to the RAZR without penalty. They also allowed me to return/replace the corresponding HDMI docking station and LapDock which would have been worthless otherwise. I paid the $50 delta to upgrade to the Moto 500 14 inch model that has an Ethernet port. They were outside the normal return period so can't fault Verizon for Motorola's hardware issues(s) . It still required some persistence on my part. Just waiting for maturing ROMs for the RAZR to appear now.

I have been on the phone with Verizon more than a couple times. I bought a Droid Bionic when it first came out back in September. I had all the bugs that came with the phone also. So after calling verizon they sent me out a new Bionic. After recieving the Bionic it still had the same problems. I called again and the representative told me that there was going to be an update in November. So i waitied and waited and waited. Eventually the update came in December. After applying the update it fixed some of the bugs but still had a ton of data connection problems. So once again i called verizon and got a new replacement sent to me. That one had the same problem as the last 2. I finally got fed up with the phone and said i would like a different type. After a woman said that the only phones available to be switched out was the HTC thunderbolt, LG revolution, and the Samsung Charge. I told her that i paid for a dual core, 4G phone and expected to receive something similar or better since none of it was my fault. She stayed with her story so i hung up and called back. Got a new guy and he told me that the closest one would be a HTC Rezound. Since i had a motorola i wanted one that i could switch out all the chargers and batteries if they could fit. He told me that the Razor, Nexus, and IPhone was not available. After talking with him for a little while longer and he compared the two he came back and told me he could send out a Droid Razor. The best thing is I didnt have to upgrade early or pay anything for the device. I thought this would be helpful for all the the dataless people with a bionic or if their phones are giving them to many problems.

After 4 defective Bionics (constant data drops, reboots, audio dropouts), Verizon agreed to swap it for the Galaxy Nexus. I'm told the phone will be certified like new which I am fine with, I for one am very pleased that Verizon is taking care of its customers here. I agree, Motorola is responsible for the defects, but I will also say that Verizon tested the Bionic for many months and should not have allowed it to be released with such widespread issues. For those considering getting a replacement for your Bionic, this is the criteria considered:

1. You must have had 3+ defective Bionics.
2. The reps will likely offer the Thunderbolt, Charge, Revolution, or possibly the Rezound. The RAZR and Galaxy Nexus are seen as higher tier than the Bionic and a supervisor will have to approve these models.
3. Models that are too new to have Certified Like New Replacements available will not be offered.
4. Expect a Certified Like New device. You are returning a used Bionic, so this really is fair.

If you have legitimate problems with the Bionic, it's worth a shot to get something more reliable

Also note, that every Verizon 4G device has strengths and weaknesses so in some respects moving to a different device may be trading one set of issues for another. The 4G dropouts are present on all the new Verizon phones, but some are worse than others. The Rezound and RAZR transition easily between 3G and 4G in fringe areas. The Droid Bionic and Droid Charge often lose data completely when in a fringe area forcing you to toggle airplane mode. Choose wisely.

Better luck going to a store or calling customer service?

Call customer service. First off, stores no longer keep warranty replacement devices. Second, you'll be waiting in line just to get referred to a manager who may be unwilling to authorize any exchange. At BEST, a store might put the order in for a "like new replacement" but other than that, reps on the phone have more options.

Don't waste time or gas driving to the store. Online customer service is much better.

I happened to walk into a Verizon store this weekend and met the dumbest employee ever. I asked him if I could see the Razor MAXX and he looked at me like I had two heads. He hadn't heard of the MAXX even though it was released three days earlier. Then he looked it up on the computer and found it. It's pretty funny when I know more about phones than a Verizon employee!
