Freezing because of semi-hard silicone case?

I stopped at my VZW corporate store today to buy a holster for my X.

I was telling them about my wife's freezing issues on hers - and the one girl working there asked if she was using the semi-hard silicone case. When I told her yes - she said she had the same issue and removed hers from the case and it has not frozen since. She then mentioned that she thought they may be recalling that particular case because it's causing the X to overheat - causing the freezing issues.

Any thoughts on this - or is she crazy?

I also have that case and have noticed an occasional freeze but more like the "not grounded" issue on the Incredible. The screen somewhat responds to touch, ie if you swipe to unlock, the slider will only move half way and they return to its resting spot, while not unlocking the phone. I have placed a finger on the top exposed area near the power button when this happens and the phone begins responding correctly again.

The semi hard silicone is no different than the hard snap cases or the standard silicone case.

No case and I got freezes, at least 2-3 a day with moderate use. Don't think its anything to do with cases or heat.

Is that the Hi Gloss Silicone Cover ive had a freeze since adding mine..
That's what the girl at the VZW store told me today.

My personal opinion is it's just a coincidence - but I'm grasping at straws here hoping I don't have to get the wife's X exchanged because I know I'll have to deal with the fallout of getting it all set up for her again - she's not very technically adept. :p

When you say freezes, what do you mean exactly. A momentary inability to interact with the phone, or something that requires a reboot (or worse removing the battery)?

Freezing as in - 5 mornings since 7/15 her phone has frozen on the Motorola logo before it has fully turned on. Pressing and holding home/power does nothing - the only solution thus far has been to pull the battery. It froze today during use for the first time also (which concerns me less than than the freeze on bootup).

Just did a factory reset - pulled the SD card and formatted it and going to see if that helps at all. Sadly - I don't think it's going to but that's what the VZW tech wanted me to try before we go the exchange route.

Ouch, that's no good. :( Good luck with getting it resolved.

If its any consolation, Verizon seems to be pretty quick in sending out replacements.

If it is occurring in the morning it most likely is not due to overheating. I have that case (I think - the one that covers the side buttons) and have not had that issue. IMHO it sounds like the phone may be the problem. Good luck, it must be frustrating.

I have the silicone case but do not have the freezing issues like you describe.

The first couple of days after getting the phones (my wife got one too) we had freezes and had to pull the battery to recover on both phones. This was after installing an app (TiKL beta) on both phones. Once we took that off they were fine, mostly. I think my wife had to pull the battery once since then.

It could be an app not behaving well. Maybe something is trying to run at start up time. if that is truly what is happening then I wonder what happens when you get a new phone. From what I have been told, when you get a new phone all of your old apps get downloaded to your new replacement phone. So be careful with that and ask how it works before you resync.

In our case, it's not the case (sorry, bad joke). My wife does not even have the silicone case.

My brother in law and his wife just got the Droid X 3 days ago and he already had to pull the battery at least once to recover from a freeze. He does not have cases yet.

Good luck. Hope it gets resolved quickly.
