Ok, I couldn't stand it. So, mosied into my one and only local store, spotting my old manager/former sales rep friend standing around (store was empty of customers---they're all over at the new AT&T place getting their iPhones). First out of the shoot was "Show me the Fascinate!!!!! As we walked over to the display, we started chatting about my displeasure with Moto. He knew all about what was going on, of course, with the OTA fiasco. According to him, Verizon was well aware that it did not go down exactly as hoped, and that it was Moto's fault. He, himself, is an X owner, and was not happy with the update, either.
He understood why I was thinking of jumping ship. All he could say was "the vendors are working on the issues and know people aren't happy".....

I told him that I had NOT gone to get the OTA, and that I knew it was only a matter of time before it was pushed to me. (I tried to rename the otacerts.zip file...no luck) So, here I sit....on 2.1, knowing at any time, 2.2 will start it's push...and I'm screwed with this POS buggy OS version with a double-locked down bootloader. His suggestion??? Demand that CS trade out the X for a Fascinate, if that is what I wanted to do...and I AM tempted.

Yes, I KNEW this was the risk going into the selection of the X...but I felt it was worth taking and hoped when the 2.2 dropped OTA it would be what I would want....and it would be *if* I could stay on 2.1.

Side note: that AMOLED screen is amazing.

I'm 2 weeks into my 30 day trial with DX
I like the phone a lot, but...
Froyo is A F U
Curious about the Samsung
Is that a locked boot loader on that?

Wondering if the batt life is that much worse on it?

No disrespect (and this is not a flame) but what fiasco? The lion-share of issues are occurring on devices that were/are rooted, task killed, pre-released and rolled back, etc. Clearly, there are some bugs present for stock users but name me an OS or upgrade for any cellular device that didn't.

The majority of stock X users are loving this upgrade. You seem more interested in manipulating your phone's software, making the lock-down bootloader an issue. In that case, I don't blame you for staying on 2.1 However, I don't see the need to perpetuate the myth that Froyo has been a bad thing.

There's nothing wrong with 2.2. It runs great for most of us. You might want to stop looking at other phones once you get a new one. There will always be a shinier toy coming out. Gotta learn to love what you have or you'll always feel unsatisfied.

You'd have to ask those questions in the Fascinate forum, but off the cuff, I don't think that bootloader is locked down.

Battery life? dunno....except it probably does suck it out pretty fast if I had to guess...in fact, the Verizon manager did say something about that.

FWIW, the Fascinate has it's issues, also...namely BING. But, I don't want to get this into a discussion about a different device here in the X forum.

I was not rooted ever, nor did I have a task killer ever. My phone is officially ruined because of this update.

And from my exprience, most people aren't loving the update. They need to fix the problems quickly. And honestly dude, congrats on not having any problems. It doesn't mean you are any better than people with problems, it just means you're lucky.

2.2 no probs here.....guess its just a random thing, but something you've done to your phone has to cause this because if it was the update being bad we would all be screwed right?

Most people come to a forum like this with issues and to complain (that's a fact). With that in mind, the generally positive numbers reflected in that poll pretty much says it all. (I just wish he broke it up into voting for stock vs. tweaked users).

For those that are stock and having issues, we feel your pain. Thankfully, you're in the relative minority.

Nothing like a 45 person sample size to prove a point.

If you root and uploade the first leak 2.2 the update wont be pushed to your phone. Then no locked down double bootloader and I have no issues and will stay on the leak for now.

Bootloader is still locked either way you go. OTA or leaked.

Leak did not update the bootloader. Birdman has a way into the second stage. The ota updated the bootloader.

If your phone is "ruined", it is still under warranty and can be replaced with one that works.

And if you think the Fascinate doesn't or isn't going to have issues, then keep dreaming. And if you get a Fascinate, then don't complain if Verizon stops supporting it before it stops supporting the X. The X is the flagship right now, so it'll most likely be supported longer than the Fascinate.

It's a sampling and right now, 73% are happy, which is very different from "most people aren't loving the update." But you know, life's too short to suffer through a phone that you're unhappy with...get something else. There are plenty of great smart phones out there.

Did the OTA update and all appears to be fine. I have no idea what "bootloader" is so.....ignorance is bliss?
I use the phone, web, 2 email accounts and Text.
I have ATK and a few other simple programs.
Calendar, schedule, weather, camera, video, gallery all appear to be working as per design.
Is there something specific I should be looking for?
