Hi all, I have recently switched from a note 9 to an a50 (long story...partner now has the note 9). I went with the a50 because it is low cost (ish!) and the reviews are fairly positive...plus it has the same battery capacity. Figured I would pass along my observations for anyone interested.

The screen on the a50 is amazing, I dont notice a quality drop from the note really, the notch it a little annoying but I have generally gotten used to it.

Speed for the most part is no noticable change. Opening apps remains fast, browsing is smooth. I do see the odd stutter on Twitter and when leaving a game like rise of kingdoms it is not as smooth as the note was.

The camera I am not as sure about, I have not tested it too much but the odd photo I have taken is considerably below the note, this is one area I think I may be dissapointed on.

Battery life is amazing on this, a significant bump on the note no doubt because of the less powerful chip and screen, the note wasnt bad but this thing is a challenge to drain.

It has virtually everything the note has! Naturally not the pen which I didnt use as much as I expected I would. It has AOD, bixby routines, most of the same camera features...I dont notice much a sacrifice really. Switching with smart switch worked really, really well too.

Overall, for a third of the price it doesnt feel like a third of the phone. It seems to be an excellent phone that runs really well. The camera is the only thing that I think may be an issue and I wont know until I take more photos.

Your review isn't surprising. A good midrange phone will do almost all the things a flagship phone will do- but slightly slower or less well. Most people just call, text, watch videos, use social media and listen to music on their phone. A OnePlus or Pocophone will do this well. I NEED THAT S PEN !!! PLUS all the other "nuances" in user experience that the Galaxy Note phones presently give. ( I believe you're gonna buy yourself the Note 10 🙂)
