From BB to Incredible (Have issues, need help, advice)

I too have also freed myself from the 3G phone hell that was a Storm 1. I have ordered and will activate my new HTC Incredible on Thursday. I will still carry a Tour as a work phone , but I can't really do anything about that.

i just replaced my storm2 with an incredible when it came out friday and so far i absolutely LOVE it!! only thing that i'm still trying to find an app for is the photo albums...i noticed that i can't make folders in the photo section so everything saved on my sd and new pictures i have taken all save into one giant folder so i hope either a software update will fix that or an app will allow me to make folders

Alright I too am looking to jump from a long line of blackberry use to the incredible, only thing I think I might miss but can't find if Android does it or not is slide show MMS? So my berrys allow me to attach a pic for MMS then I have the option to attach another and another until the limitations of MMS is reached depending on the photo size. I was also looking at a PRE then found out it does NOT have this ability. How about android? If not is there a 3rd party app that can?

BBM to Google Talk

I use both BBM and Google Talk all the time, I'm thinking of making the switch from a Curve to an Incredible... Trying to get my BBM friends to use Google Talk is like pulling teeth, and they already have gmail accounts. I just don't get it. I love BBM, but i also like not having to pay 20 dollars for unlimited TXTs.

heh exact same problem. nobody wants google talk. funny thing is that i'm pretty sure it's preinstalled on all blackberries to begin with. at least it was on the storm.

people tell me it's not as secure as bbm and they are afraid their conversations aren't private...

also, apparently you can't send pics through gtalk like you can with bbm.

Hey all

New to the android world. Switched from the blackberry world and loving this new phone. My question is, on my new incredible, to get skins for my keyboard, would i first have to download "better keyboard"?

Thanx

I have a possibly stupid question.....I've searched all over and read this whole thread.

My husband and my Incredibles will be delivered today. We are both switching over from the Storm 1. I'm just wondering how to transfer over the saved text messages my husband has on his phone. I usually delete all mine after I read them, but he saves a ton on there and I know he doesn't want to lose them. I told him to go through and weed out what he really doesn't need, but I know there will be a bunch left.

Is there any way to do this? Thanks

I have been a faithful BB user since the Pearl. I've also owned a Curve, Storm (9am on release date), Tour, and Storm 2 (9am on release date).

I didnt think there could be anything better.....until I got the HTC INC on Thursday (9am in the morning), all I have to say is wow. My ONLY complaint is the battery life, other than that, it is absolutely AMAZING!

If you're debating about doing the switch, don't sit infront of your computer any longer, go do it...NOW! I'm sure there will be a fix for the battery soon enough, with everyone complaining, HTC will come out with a solution.

I wound up sending the saved text messages to my gmail account before activating my Incredible (after I weeded through them alittle myself). Then they were accessible from the new phone and I grouped them together into a Label and archived them under Gmail. Looked just the same as saved messages on my Storm1 then.

Thanks, neither one of us has ever had a gmail account before, but it looks like we will now. That may be what I have to do.

I am not happy with the lack of locking options coming from a blackberry.

This is problem I face:
I am waiting for a huge page to load, or downloading something from the market and I am not interacting with the phone. I have the screen set to turn off in 30 seconds to conserve battery. Every time the screen turns off I have to enter the unlock pattern! Annoying!

Here is what I would like to do:
Only lock the phone and require the unlock pattern IF the phone is manually put to sleep with the power button, or if I havent touched the phone in XX minutes. It would be great if the screen could turn off, but NOT require the lock pattern until its been off for XX minutes.

Any ideas how to do this for free or a cheap app?

Just set your timeout to a minute. It won't affect battery that much. And I usually manually lock my phone within that minute so u won't usethat much battery.

ok, I cannot find where the setting is to save photos to the sd card.
Do I have to move them later on?

(pulling this from memory)

  1. open the camera
  2. slide the left-side panel open by swiping the tab towards the center of the screen
  3. click settings button (at the bottom)
  4. somewhere in there, you'll find a 'storage' option

i'm pretty sure you have to change the setting for both the camera and video camera; although, i may be wrong about that.

I text a lot and I used to use the "Delete Prior" option on my BB a lot so that I could keep my texts from the day and keep the conversation there so I didnt have to open new ones. Is there are a way to do this on the Incredible or do I have to delete them all. It seems that at around 300 texts it takes a second to open the conversation instead of just opening.

look for patterncontrol in the market. doesn't lock on the button press but kepps the pattern from activating for a set time. still have to swipe down though.

I am a super hard core BB user for a long long time. The first BB I used is the 71xx series, then I move on to the other model from the 83xx-88xx ..... to the Bold 9700. I already tried/used every model BB available on the market ... And just last couple days ago, after having so many issues with T-Mobile and the 9700 itself, I figured out that "This is time for something new ...."

I acknowledged that I used my BB's mostly for sms, email and IM. I carry my BB everywhere I go, even to bathroom or to the bed with my gf. She was so mad at me because I once said that: "I can leave without my gf for a couple weeks, but not with my BB, even for a day!"

When I decided to come back to my family plan with Verizon and buy the INC, I already expected a difficult transformation from BB habit to a new device platform. I tried the iPhone before, so I know that the virtual keyboard is not like the physical qwerty. However, the BB device and OS is getting too old to me. They don't change much since the "brick 6xxx" to the elegant Bold's. And there is nothing new for me to explore ....

Now, I am waiting for my INC is scheduled to delivery by tomorrow evening ... I am so excited to use the new OS and device besides with some expected inconveniences of the virtual keyboard.

For conclusion, I still expect to see something really "new" from RIM with a new generation of BB, and I may come back. But for now and then, I am confident with my decision and will try to master my new INC for a short time
