From Sprint to T-Mobile

Been with Sprint for over 15 years now but the network speed is really starting to wear me down. I"m in a Sprint Spark area but sometimes struggle to even get 1mbps down. When the G4 hits the streets, I"m thinking about jumping over to T-Mobile.

Currently have 4 lines, 2 of them under contract for another 14 months and 2 completely out of contract. I know T-Mobile will pay the ETF so my question is would there be any problem giving T-Mobile the 2 older phones (2 Samsung S3's) and keeping my 2 LG G3's to sell? Will Sprint put on the final bill that my G3's were on the lines for the ETF? Does T-Mobile just require that 2 phones be traded in and it doesn't have to be the ones on the lines with ETF fees?

After I port in to T-Mobile, will the ESN be clear on my G3's to sell right away? I assume the contract is tied to the line and not necessarily the phone, is that correct?

They only want you to turn in the phones that are tied to the lines they're paying the ETFs for. Ensure you have money for your ETFs up front... It's kind of like a rebate. It'll take a few weeks to be reimbursed but you'll get it. You will just want to pay off Sprint before that so it doesn't go to collections.

The ETF is tied to the line and not the phone correct? Because at any time I could activate a different phone on the line but as long as I don't cancel that specific line the phone doesn't really matter? I could easily just just moved phones around on the account and activate the older phones on the lines with ETF.
Upfront money for the ETF is fine because I know money will be saved in the long run.
I would just hate to get $95 each for my G3s on trade when I could get more selling them if it would work.

Call and ask. The reason Sprint is so slow it's because of everybody abusing the unlimited data.

That is definitely not the reason... Otherwise T-Mobile would be in the same boat.

It shouldn't matter. It's tied to the line and they just want a phone for that line.. So they don't care. You just tell them that's the phone. Some people went out and bought cheapo smartphones.(~$30 or so) and turned those in to get the refund for their ETF.

Thanks. My hope was that I could cover half or more of the ETF by selling the phones and turn it into a little bit of a money maker once the gift cards come in.

Read my story on the Verzion site!. Make sure when you change servers that you don't have your payment debt from your account(Old severs), that can become a real problem!...

Glad you got your situation squared away. That's exactly why I don't have anything tied to my bank account except things that require it (mortgage, car payment). All other bills and everything else goes on a credit card for me. I don't have to worry about erroneous charges to my bank account plus I'm racking up reward points.
