Front camera G6 vs G4

so i tested the front camera on the g6 and the picture was terrible. it was worse than my old g4. anyone else have this experience? i just bought the g6 and now i'm thinking of returning it and not even opening it because of that. everyone was praising the rear camera but no one ever mentioned how bad the front facing camera was.

the G4 front camera was really good., I would take group shots with it at night and it would come out light and sharp. The G6 front facing camera is bad in everything but perfect lighting. It's like that on the V10 and V20 too. It must have something to do with the lens. But, the quality is better in "wide angle" because when it isn't wide, it's a software crop.

I agree, they really skimped on the sensor on the front. 5MP just doesn't cut it anymore.

I don't selfie much so this isn't an issue for me. Great phone.

Yes front camera is shocking! I guess they can be forgiven considering some of the shots I'm getting with the main cameras

sometimes you just need to be able to take a picture with everyone and the scenery. i know i do. not sure what their reasoning for downgrading the front facing camera cause the g4 i have has way better front camera and i'm sure the v10, v20 and g5 also do.

V10 and V20 front facing cams were the same as this one. Most reviewer do talk about how bad it is.

you sure? cause the v10 seems to take better front pics than the g6

It was so poor, I commented about it a lot when I got it.. I guess it's possible that it's a little better.. But when I got the v10 from the g4, I noticed the difference immediately. But in proper lighting it's ok.

in good light front cam is good only in low light it struggles...i have a selfie light for my night parties and snap chats no issues ...i used it on my s7 edge and axon 7 selfies light saves night selfie pics

Agreed, the big issue is with cropping. I guess it doesn't bother me much because I'm not much of a selfie person.

This is one of the reasons why I returned the G6. The front facing camera was terrible and grainy. It reminded me of quality from a few years ago.

Not to get a decent group shot though.
The wide angle helps but you often get the stretch armstrong arms effect
