My 8meg camera (rear) has been working fine, but if I goto camera setting and select secondary camera it still uses the rear camera but changes it to 1meg. Did a hard reset and still have same result without any apps installed.

Re-flash the stock Rom. Can be found on Xda, under Evo development. It's posted by a guy called football. It's an exe so you download it to your pc, plug the phone into your pc, launch the exe and voila .... fresh install of stock Rom. The unrevoked root method will still work after this but you'll need to reinstall it.

I have the exact same issue with my EVO, and this is a replacement EVO which also has vertical lines through the screen. Im wondering what happend to quality controll with HTC???

P.S. Flashing the stock rom back on does NOT fix this issue with the front cam.

I installed an APK for Gtalk 1.3 video on my stock rooted EVO 4G (android 2.3.3 build 4.24.651.1) and it caused the stock camera app to close when switching to front facing camera. I have tried everything from clearing data for camera app, clearing dalvik cache and reflashing gtalk video apk, restoring stock gtalk with Titanium backup, Full factory reset (still rooted), and finally flashing stock RUU 4.53.651.1 and then running RUU 4.54.651.1 .exe. Even after full RUU reset with no apps installed the camera app still closes upon attempting to switch to FFC. Could it be that somehow Gtalk 1.3 video actually killed the camera hardware? Is there a way to reflash stock camera APK? I haven't had nay luck finding this.

I read somewhere camera issues might be kernel related. Current Kernel is 2.6.35.10. Phone bought on release date, obviously out of warranty and I don't really want to give up and replace yet.

Since you're rooted, keefdawg, download and flash a Sense kernel. Since you say it could be kernel based and all.
