Just thought everyone should know the program SuperOneClick will indeed root the Ally running stock Froyo 2.2.1
You can get it at XDA [APP]SuperOneClick v1.6.3 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers Please follow the instructions on the download page closely and consider donating to the author if you find his program useful.

**Edited**

I have found a new App on XDA called GingerBreak APK to root and unroot Ally. It is run 100% from your phone like z4root was, and will root/unroot at the click of a button. It uses the newer GengerBreak exploit and works on Ally running both 2.2.1 and 2.2.2.

To Root/unroot 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 on Ally
1.Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1044765 and down GingerBreak APK v1.2 **Please read through the original post for need to know info**

2.copy it to the root directory of your SD Card

3. use a file management program such as Root explorer to navigate to the file (GengerBreak-1.20.apk) and install on your phone. https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result

4. Open program and press "Root Device"

5. wait for phone to reboot. Congratulations, your rooted.

Thanks for the link. Hopefully I'll get a chance within the next day or two to give it a shot. That certain teenager will be very happy once again. Said she likes Froyo, but mad that it took SU permission away. LOL

Just remember to enable, disable usb debugging and plug in / unplug the USB cable when told to in the instructions.

I made one attempt last night to regain SU permission. Ended with a fail. Superoneclick said device was rooted, but indeed it was not. She has so much garbage running on the phone that I don't seem to have enough time to disable/enable/disable USB debug. Gonna do an operation cleanup shortly and attempt again.

New version available now also, same link.

Ver 1.6.5 was the one I tried yesterday with no dice. Still haven't had a chance to clean and retry as of yet.

Per tefca, I gave 1.6.3 a shot and it worked flawlessly. Thanks guys, I feel alot less of a moron now. Have rooted TONS of newer phones and this particular Ally was trying to get one over on me. :)

It confused me as well. Phone was rooted prior to Froyo. Update notification was recieved and she installed the update. As expected, root access was lost. With 1.6.5, I first tried with debugging enabled. No error messages, but didn't have root. Initiated the process with debugging off and then switched on/off during the process. Still wouldn't return root. Tried with it 1.6.3 and it went through just fine. Who knows...

i've tried 1.5.5; 1.6.5; and 1.7 havent had any luck with rooting. it either loops or cant seem to disable, enable, disable usb debugging fast enough, though usually as soon as i do disable it the whole program freezes. found this .wmv on rooting ally, haha looks so simple when he does it....

It didn't work for me. Hung up on waiting for device. Tried following the instructions on unlockr.com for this problem but nothing worked. unfortunate...

so has anyone successfully rooted their device int his forum, im about to do it to my dads phone, i rooted with revoked for the incredible super simple 1 click, hoping i can find something similar for the ally.

I'm not trying to do a mission to get the ally rooted its just so I can give my dad the wireless tether in case he ever had to use a laptop or just to help someone at the local coffee shop with no wifi. I was at office depot contemplating if I should buy something was on my phone using the bestbuy app when I remember duh wireless tether one of the laptops on display. Sure enough it worked was cruising their browser instantly.

Android, the best community. Sent using tapatalk.

checked it out and it didnt work for me heres my log... what went wrong
