Just thought everyone should know the program SuperOneClick will indeed root the Ally running stock Froyo 2.2.1
You can get it at XDA [APP]SuperOneClick v1.6.3 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers Please follow the instructions on the download page closely and consider donating to the author if you find his program useful.

I have found a new App on XDA called GingerBreak APK to root and unroot Ally. It is run 100% from your phone like z4root was, and will root/unroot at the click of a button. It uses the newer GengerBreak exploit and works on Ally running both 2.2.1 and 2.2.2.

To Root/unroot 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 on Ally
1.Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1044765 and down GingerBreak APK v1.2 **Please read through the original post for need to know info**
2.copy it to the root directory of your SD Card
3. use a file management program such as Root explorer to navigate to the file (GengerBreak-1.20.apk) and install on your phone. https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
4. Open program and press "Root Device"
