Froyo ETA Set

Well that's lame. How do you not use an uploading service like megaupload and have a couple links ready? Hype it up that much and then can't handle it? Fail.

so what's the reason for the delay in releasing it?
If someone has it, then why not release it.. why make everyone wait until a certain time.
maybe i'm just being paranoid.
but maybe they need time to plant a backdoor/trojan/malware/etc
idk.. since the official is just a few short weeks away I may just hold out.

the delay also helps generate traffic to their site, gets people to donate money for their efforts, and they might have things going on in their life where they need some time to get it uploaded and stuff.

so long as it materializes sometime today, i'm going to be a happy camper.

flashbacks of the fiasco with root on the inc make me slightly weary, but i'm an optimistic guy :)

WOO HOO! Now I just need to figure out how to undo all the hacks I've done to my X... I'm thinking just flashing a stock rom would do it, but where do I get the rom?

cory or avlfive, please post the steps for us with some first impressions. im really nervous about bricking my x and i know you two wouldnt let us down.

Will do. You will have an answer in about 2 minutes. FYI - during the flash process you will be pressing the on screen ok button an alarming number of times, because the periods will stop periodically. Don't panic. Just keep pressing Ok. I also recommend a factory reset/data wipe.

i'm assuming you put it in /sdcard then reboot to recovery, wipe system, then apply update.zip.

well that's what i'm doing now, so i'll let you know if my phone explodes. :)

i'm guessing we're going to lose our custom recovery after the update?

Do you Have to wipe? Also will i have to port my number to the phone again?

Steps:

1.) Download update from here.
2.) Move update.zip to SD card.
3.) Power down X
4.) Press and hold the home button
5.) Press the power button - when X powers on release the power button but continue to hold the home key.
6.) When the triangle appears release the home button
7.) Press the search button
8.) Using the volume rocker move the cursor down to apply update.zip from sdcard
9.) press OK as many times as necessary through out the update.

When complete - it's my personal opinion that you should factory reset/wipe.

Factory reset/wipe = removes apps and clears the cache. Optional, but I like to do it just to start fresh.

First impression: it worked. Not much else to say at the moment.

Awesome! Thank you so much! P3Droid said something about moving su to xbin though.

After applying/installing the update, a factory reset doesnt revert back to 2.1? So its just like flashing on a WM OS.
