Froyo ETA Set

So for those of you that run launcher pro and are feverishly checking for an update every 14.6 seconds like me here's a tip that'll save you a few clicks
Long Press on a home screen > Shortcuts > Activities > Settings > System Updates (it's a long list and it's not in order so it might be hard to find)
That'll put a shortcut right on your home screen instead of having to go into Settings > About Phone > System Update.
This might work without LauncherPro but I don't recall "activities" being an option without LauncherPro.
oh, and the guy at the taco stand down the street totally said it's hitting tonight at midnight...just sayin.

Actually, I expect an announcement tomorrow, just ahead of the Adobe/Motorola Flash meeting they'll be streaming to developers. Of course, just like with the Dinc that may not mean the rollout will be fast..or even immediate. But none the less I'd expect it to be announced, and if things go well perhaps we'll even start to get it this weekend.

yup, i put aLogCat right next to it also...
downside, i'm checking about ever 6 seconds now because it's so much quicker...

racin, this is probably 100% accurate but grabbing the update and putting it on a mirror ensures that if for some reason pull isn't available the update is still out there a little earlier for everyone.
it also means that in the event the update is removed because of some issue then folks still have the option of updating if they want to. some would argue that if it's pulled then you shouldn't upgrade but the majority of us i'd imagine are comfortable rolling back if need be and taking the the proper OTA when it's re-posted.
just another option is all.
i understand your point. i also doubt the update will be taken down since they have been tooling with it for so long it should be 95% bug free.
my point is that there will be a hundred threads saying "FROYO HAS ARRIVED" or "2.2 IS HERE" followed by everyone and their brother posting their log files with personal info

yeah I'm with ya, that's how it always is...
I would hope that people are smart enough to not post personal phone data on a public site...but i'd imagine some aren't.

Just got off the phone with a tier 2 tech support rep.
(My home, search, and camera buttons are 100% unresponsive)
My reconditioned (yay! </sarcasm>) dx is coming tomorrow.
She was a self-confessed geek, programmer, and android junkie herself. On a whim, I asked THE question, and actually got a sensible, believable answer. Take it for what it's worth...
She said that Moto released 2.2 to Verizon, and the rollout will begin the first week in October on a rolling basis (i.e. not everyone at once, but that won't stop us
)and last through mid-November.
As I said... take it for what it's worth. Steve Jobs may say the same thing if you email him.

I never bothered to look it up, but I didn't even have a guess as to what type of dessert froyo is. Now I get it. Frozen yogurt. I haven't seen a TCBY in a long time.
We don't have any around here anymore but if I recall correctly, it's This Country's Best Yogurt. However, they always seemed to call the stores "TCBY Yogurt" which seemed a bit redundant. Unless it was yogurt flavored yogurt, in which case... nope. Still redundant.

i, also, spoke with tier 2 yesterday in regards to an issue I am having with my dialer. The phone dialer has locked up on my twice in 2 days. anyways, I was discussing some of the known issues with the phone/software and she brought up froyo. and I casually asked...."when is that supposed to be released?" she responded by saying that she doesn't know but it should be soon. She went on to say that VZW doesn't want to tell any of the tech people when it will be coming out until it is definite so as to not cause a hubbub if it doesn't happen on the given date.
so, the wait goes on........
