Froyo ETA Set

Watching an embedded unboxxing video of the Samsung Epic 4g on IGN right now (using Dolphin HD over my wifi) and it's honestly no different than watching it on my PC (other than the 4.3" screen vs. the 24" screen).

I'll ask my wife where she put our lil Kodak zi6 camcorder thing in the morning and try to video it tomorrow and post something if I'm feeling ambitious and no one else has beat me to it.

Cool, thanks :)

Ok...so I think I may take the plunge.

I am rooted right now but I may unroot just to do this the clean way. If unrooted, all I do is place the update.zip in the root of the SD card. Then follow these steps:

Turn off the phone.
Once off hold the home button
Power on your phone.
Continue holding home until u see the triangle
Then press search.
Use the volume down to select install update from SD
then press menu to select ok.

Right?

You got it. It will take about 5 to 10 minutes.

Re: Froyo in less than 24 hours?!

It was legit too, I didn't screw with it like you can. I saw 9000+ the other day from cyanogen.

I did to into build.prop and changed the stagefright stuff to true instead of false though.

Try playing videos and see if you have issues. Record one if needed. Messing with those setting messes up video and audio playback.

What does that do exactly? Instructions anywhere? Does it just improve quadrant score or improve overall performance?

Does this mean Birdman can take 5 from trying to crack the bootloader? If so, maybe he could relax and unwind a little. Maybe watch some TV, go fishing, or try to pick the lock on the neutered HDMI output on the X... Just some relaxing suggestions for his personal benifit of course.

Ok, and how do I go back to 2.1 if I ever want to? I'm not rooted so I can't just flash a rom.

Ditto.

And will I have to go "flash" back to 2.1 to get an OTA update? Or will there be a manual update like the D1?

Also I thought I read that you had to get rid of launcher programs before upgrading? Im using AWD launcher.

Thanks

There might be another way to do it, but I flashed the .sbf file to get back to 2.1. Unfortunately finding the tools and the file is a little difficult, but they are out there.

You shouldn't have to flash back to 2.1 to get the OTA, but I don't think anyone can say that it's 100% certain - especially after what happened to the EVO guys who upgraded early.

IMHO the most successful path to success is to hard reset before applying the update, and hard resetting/wiping data again after applying the update. Some people may disagree with this, but I find that things have always worked better for me when I followed this path.

After thinking about this... This an "official" yet leaked update... And its manually installed the same way as on the D1 I believe... So I would think unlike a custom rom and what not you should be able to get the OTA or at least install the official one manually..

But as you said. That time hasn't come so no one knows.

I did find the sbf file and how to flash it seemed pretty tedious. But to be completely honest the past day and a half I've read so many threads and the links that are posted in them I'm pretty damn confused Lol

I do hate having to reset the phone but that sounds like the best way of going about this.

Ehhh...idk, I wasn't to take the plunge but I want to be able to roll back to 2.1 just in case.

Time to ponder.

i upgraded to 2.2 from rom manager and im having some issues...lost root...and everytime i reboot it stays stuck on the motorolla logo, i have to do a battery pull everytime and reboot...also my quadrant score is essentially the same 1250-1275 when previously it was around that anyway...any ideas?

My phones been stuck on the "google" sign in for a while now  never had it take this long before.

edit: I shut the phone off rebooted then hit "skip" then later went to add google and found it already added it.

And hell. Just for the record while I'm post whoring it up.

I did a factory reset before I updated. And I had no problems activation the phone.

and you can get silent mode from holding the power button... or swiping on the lock screen.

After some work I got froyo installed and seem to be having the same issue of being stuck in the motorola sometimes and others it boots up just fine. The only continuing issue I'm having is trying to play music, I get a message saying "Sorry, the player does nit support this type of file" when trying to play an mp3. Just tried a movie and getting pretty much same message....D'OH!

I see some people saying they wiped their device and then updated and were able to just reinstall all their apps at once in the marketplace. Is there some way backup your previously installed apps or something in the marketplace? I had to manually do mine one by one.

Now that's I've had no issues after 3 days I'm thinking of going ahead and sdoing the miss's phone and my BIL and a backup would make it a lot easier.
