Considering that they just announced Froyo "officially", AND we all know sprint is going to block it. Do you think we will be able to root the device and use the wifi hotspot without paying 29.99 a month for the feature?

I give it 2 days after Sprint/HTC release the upgrade.

I was thinking the same thing, i really hope this is the case. its absurd that they charge 29.99 for such a simple feature that every phone should have.

Yeah, of course I will root it. I want to live up the Android. I can't even count how many times I have had to wipe my Pre and even my computer because I mess around with them too much.

The hotspot, even though I won't use it too much, sounds like something I will give a shot. Why not right?

So question everyone. If people are to root this device and Froyo is released. I assume if Froyo isn't added to the EVO soon, and someone makes a stock android for EVO.. is there a way to add Sense to the ROMs?

probably not. Need to wait for HTC to release the Sprint version of Froyo, with Sense, most likely.

going to wait it out maybe a couple weeks get used to the evo, then hear how the root is and maybe then i shall root the beautiful phone =)

In that case I will pray that Sprint updates to Froyo soon. I think this is likely considering google gave the phone out which I think signals intent to treat the EVO as a secondary flagship device. I also have to hope Sprint holds to the alleged policy of not blocking apps, and I can use the Froyo tether app.

It happened on the Sprint Pre (the Mobile Hotspot App was Verizon exclusive, for 10$ a month), so I'm sure it'll happen on the Evo.

Quick question... Is there anyway to 'doctor' your phone, similar to the Pre? Or if theres no way to fix the phone after its broken, whats the best way to prevent it?

Sprint told me July froyo. They wanted it on the device from the start, but they also did now want to delay it for another month. I say that was a good choice. Nice going Sprint.

Please for the love of GOD, let this quote be true and not some Sprint sales person just yanking your chain.

Wondering how far up the food chain this information comes from. Sprint store salesperson = Don't really know anything about anything, Sprint store manager= knows just enough to be dangerous, corp. Sprint employee = might have heard some form of the truth, Hesse = maybe he knows :p

Here's hoping for FROYO very soon on the Evo and free wireless tethering soon after.

yea, how could sprint have wanted it? they lose out on the $30 rip-off fee

Google apparently gives phone manufacturers the option to disable it. It may be included in FroYo, but I would expect it to be disabled from the official release by Sprint because it would conflict with the economics of their business plan with this phone. They're charging for it now, and they'll probably continue that practice when they release FroYo for EVO.

we actually want the delay. The phone has already been rooted in 2.1, might as well root it when you get it. Then run rooted 2.2 ROMs when available.
