FroYo on EVO: A brief review for people new to Android

Well flash is in the market to download so what's the big deal? Its pretty beta so I would prefer to download it off the market..

Well there isn't as much crap on it..some of you might call those features but a lot of the stuff in the evo is HTC sense crap..I believe setting ringtones to contacts is a HTC contacts feature.

No ROM I have ran is as fast as froyo so I guess youre lucky.

I think the default browser sucks and always use dolphin HD..it lets you pick between android, desktop and iPhone for user agent.

Thanks for the input. I don't use HTC sense, though. Bugless Beast includes option to use LauncherPro. Don't get me wrong--I'm not knockin' Froyo. I'm only reporting my experiences with these custom ROM's. AND, I'd like to know if I'M doing something that might be fixable to make Froyo run like you guys are describing.

Another thing really buggin me: On Froyo ROM, my phone will not sync Yahoo! mail account. Something about SMTP (I think). It will sync when I'm on 2.1 custom ROM's. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah I think the launcher in froyo is slow..first thing I do is load launcher pro and delete the old launcher.apk

I also like to run spare parts ans turn the transition stuff off. They make the screens feel slow but they aren't really they are just set to medium speed transition..

I liked bugless beast but too many force closes for me.

Awesome news- AvalaunchMods over at XDA has cracked the camera problem!

He thinks he can get it working within days, for EVOlutionV9! All rejoice! If you use his ROM, consider making a donation (even a dollar is something) for all his hard work- he's really going above and beyond.

In other news, I've got a battery update. After what I consider to be a moderate usage day (~20 min voice, ~15 min web, ~15 texts, send/receive ~30 emails- exchange account on Push, downloaded and listened to a 30 min podcast, and 45 minutes of music, all in moderate signal area 2-3 bars 3G, display set to 1/2 brightness, WiFi off, GPS on). Battery life was actually pretty decent: 63% left after nearly 10 hours use as described.

I looked, trust me. I looked for the option "mobile view" to uncheck it (like in 2.1) but could not find it.

It's not the settings if the web site you go to have the capability of detecting your browser via the "User Agent" string. Most likely, it'll be set to "Android" and therefore, the web site will redirect to a mobile version. Get a browser like Dolphin HD and set your UserAgent to Desktop and everything will be desktop like.

Yep I agreed with the battery life of this build. I had it myself and before I went to sleep last night, it was clocked at 95% and I didn't plug it in the entire night (8 hrs time frame) and this AM woke up it's down to about 85% which is not bad.

Also, another thing to add. The pattern lock is now working...I mean if you do not set pattern lock, the stock lock will take place as indicated by OP pic. But if you turned on pattern lock, then pattern lock will take over the stock lock and you only need to unlock once using pattern. Huge plus for me because I always set pattern lock to keep my coworkers out of my phone :). We are all in Information Security so we get at each other all the times when we get a chance.
