Frustrated/mad.... armv6

So, got the Optimus for the wife and I last december after reading a ton of reviews about it being the best entry android on the market.

Now, four months in, I find myself increasingly frustrated by the lack of support based on the archaic processor.

At the time of purchase, I did not realize that this was an armv6... or that armv6 was an impediment to the android experience. Had I know this, I most likely would have gone for the evo, or stuck it out until the wp7 phone hit market.

First, the lack of flash support is frustrating.
Now, firefox requires armv7 as minimum specs as well.

If this phone is obsolete four months after purchase, whats the landscape going to look like in 2 years when its time for the next contract renewal and upgrade?

I felt the same way when I got the HTC Hero last April, it was then a top of the line Sprint Android phone but in reality it was an outdated, laggy, hacked, ring delaying turd at least the Optimus works much better and has a good amount of RAM.
I have not seen a decent (3.4+" screen, modern CPU) non 4G phone from Sprint yet and personally do not care about the one of a kind 4G service that does not have much coverage here or internationally and will most likely get killed by LTE. I really hope they release the HTC Merge with GSM radio then I could actually use my phone when I travel outside the US.

Flash has caved in to Apple and things will be going HTML5 so Flash will be passe. There are plenty of browsers that work fine on the Optimus even one (Skyfire) which translates Flash to be viewed. The caveat with technology is that the minute you buy something, it begins to be passed by new developments. It costs to stay out at the bleeding edge.

I would hardly call armV7 bleeding edge. I have yet to get skyfire to correctly translate flash where it mattered (most recently NCAA tournament streaming direct from NCAA)

Use a different browser like suggested above Skyfire if you need to view a flash webpage. Its a very capable phone. :)

The tournament was unwatchable on the evo with 4g. You didn't miss much.

Wasn't aware of issues with that. The latest to set me off was not being able to load up Firefox 4 mobile when I tried yesterday, then looked at the requirements. I can only imagine that more and more apps and programs won't be supported going forward.

ummm... you get what you pay for?

But for what the phone cost... it's a great phone.

You must not had the touch pro 2, htc hero, samsung intercept, samsung transform, kyocera ... etc. Try those phones and you'll love this.

Agreed lol

Yip only 1 usd this phone cost. For almost free its awesome. :)

When we got them in December the cost was $100 each at the sprint store (after MIR).

Had a blackberry prior to this, and was looking forwad to jumping into Android. Didn't realize I was getting archaic hardware.

So you didn't try it out at the store to make sure it could run flash, or whatever else you are trolling about. I went in and the sprint rep installed angry birds for me to try before I ordered mine, and he told me then I would need the evo if I wanted to install flash.

Over the past couple of years, I've experienced a fair number of phones... In the grand scheme of things, this phone's really decent for it's price point.

I've used a pre, a moment, intercept, hero and now the Optimus... I thought about getting an Evo... or Epic... and decided that I could live with the Optimus S...

No, it doesn't have flash... yes, it does run most of the software I want to run reasonably well. I root it so I can get rid of some of the stuff I don't care to have on my phone... and to be able to back it up.

Could I live with it non-rooted... probably.

My optimus was free... not everyone got in on that deal... I can't complain for what it is... it's one of the best "in-expensive" android phones you can get... Stock - it stands very favorably against the Droid-X I have for work...

I wish it had the glass screen my Hero had... but a screen protector makes it all ok.

^^^Got my LG Optimus S free as well....it's a good basic a android smartphone....it does what I need it to do....haven't gotten to the point of rooting it though.....

Free here also. Great phone for that price. My hero and this are both running CM7, another great point. Optimus for me runs stable at 768, the Hero slightly slower. Both are much faster than my wife's 800 MHz intercept. Now, if you want to complain about a phone, that's one to complain about.

Not to say I wont be getting a Nexus S when Sprint gets it, as one my lines still has an upgrade available.

How did you pay that much? I got mine in November for free with a contract. It's not archaic you just can't do two things with it.
