Hey, just got my S20 Ultra this week. My first Samsung in a while after stopping at the Note, S8 and S8 Plus. Loving the phone so far but hating the fact I can't use full Google gestures with 3rd party launchers. Is there any reason Samsung aren't fixing this or have they said they will soon? I know Google fixed this issue around Christmas when they added the ability back on my Pixel 3XL and my Huawei Mate 20 Pro so it can't be Google's doing 🤷*♂️

From what I've read, I don't believe it is a Samsung issue. It is a Google issue. They way Android 10 is coded, does not allow for third party launchers to utilize the Google gestures. The fault is with Google/Android not Samsung.

Yeah the Google gestures on Samsung don't work yet with 3rd party launchers

I read that too however like I mentioned above Google already fixed the issue in Android around Christmas. I'm sure 3rd launcher gesture support returned with the December update if I recall correctly. Surely they wouldn't only allow it for their own hardware and not all others?

My bad, I didn't see your last sentence. Last I knew, it was a Google issue and I hadn't read that Google fixed it.

You could well be right to be fair. The Pixel 4 got it back first and then the older Pixels a month or so later so the ability for them to pick and choose is clearly there. I just hope they fix it soon either way. The OneUI launcher is good enough but I do miss having the Google Feed to the left of my home page and the ability to change the icons across the board.

The main blame is on Google and the way they implemented the Recents provider after Android 10. Some OEMs, like OnePlus, managed to enable full gestures with third party launcher, even if there are some glitches. Others, like Samsung, Nokia or Motorola, decided to disable this option. Even Pixel 3 and below only got it after the December patch.

You can download One Handed+ from the Galaxy store and it will give you these gestures even with a 3rd party home app.

I've been using gestures for a long time, now that Google has them it's a big deal, best feature ever. Between edge gestures and gestures thru Nova launcher, I've been controlling most my phones functions with gestures for some time now.

I consider Samsung's launcher like iPhone, it's always behind in features, full of limits,a follower, where as Nova launcher is the Android version of Launchers, innovative, leading the way in features. I use Nova here as that's what I use, but most third party Launchers are more feature packed them Samsung's launcher. This gesture stuff has been around for awhile

Yeah Nova still isn't supporting Google's features even on pixel devices. You can use them but it definitely struggles and has issues.

I can use on pixel 4xl no issues , but I prefer pixel launcher

If the pixel launcher allowed me to use an icon pack, hide apps in the drawer and double tap to lock I'd have no issues with it. I hate shrunken icons with a big white background.

I hear you ..

Same here on my pixel 4 XL I always come back to Pixel launcher even if try Nova or other launcher. Something with Pixel launcher just feels right to me.

Even on Samsung phones now I have settled with default launcher, only thing I miss is Google feed instead of crappy Samsung daily option. I know that's never going to be an option lol.

What's wrong with Samsung Daily?

What's right there? I love Google feed because I'm deep into Google services. Google feed shows news/recommendations based on YouTube history, Google search history and other Google activity. It works great for me with recommendations even though people say it's gone downhill over the last few years but not for me. Yes they know pretty much everything about me and I'm fine with that . I trust Google, Microsoft and Apple with my data.

On the other hand I don't like anything about Samsung daily it adds zero value to me and I don't use any of Samsung apps or services.

Personal choice of course and everyone can have their own preference.
