How long do you think this device will be relevant and receive android updates before they discontinue rolling them out to It? Has there been any confirmation that the S7 will or will not receive Android Oreo? With the S8 line and the approaching S9 line, I just wonder how long this device with retain relevancy and avoid obsoletion. It is everything the GS6 line should have been, and is quite impressive on many areas, gaming in particular. It games way better than any ph9be I had before, including my gs6 edge.

Battery management is better 9n this device, can get 12-16 hours time before recharge required more times than not, screen on time is 10000 times better than the previous flagship devices I've owned, which includes the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC one M8, Droid Razr. 6 hours screen on time is typical, and it's not unusual for me to get 8 hours of screen on time. All previous devices I mentioned never approached that, not even close.

Also, it has water resistance, microSD, and a still very formidable camera, even with these newer flagship devices rolling out. I don't have to be AS concerned over the occasional spill or light rain shower (which ruined my S3), can store far more photos and videos with the sd card there for additional storeage, can buy multiple cards and designate them for specific uses-- ie family photos, vacation pics, fishing trips, and so on. And this saves internal storeage tremendously.
I can take nice crisp photos and videos with the shooter on the s7, especially in good lighting conditions.
Also, I like having a physical home button on front of the phone, as opposed to by the rear camera lens on the S8 and the rumored in screen sensor for the S9.

All that taken into account, how much of a 'shelf life's do you see for the S7? With phones so high priced now, I would like to hang onto my S7 for a few years before delving into another 24 month payment agreement on the next phone. Question is, with the features the S7 has, how many years can you see it being serviceable?

(P.S. I was thinking about going to the S8 when my s6 edge oofed, but upon seeing the price tag on the S8, I decided to go with the S7).

It will get Oreo. Samsung always gives 2 updates to its flagships. If the S5 is any indication, it will receive security updates for another year (total 3 yrs). If course this may be dependent on your carrier, but this is what the international unlocked models would expect.

Yeah I hope to get Oreo with my S7. Long as I get 2 major android updates and security updates for a year or two after that, then I'm pretty satisfied. I could have went with the S8, and got a guarantee to get android 9, but the S8, while a masterpiece of a device, it just had things on it I wasn't sure I could make much use of. And I didn't like the fingerprint sensor location. And though I may perhaps be "in the stone age" now on this, I really like a physical home key. Those were the big factors into choosing the S7 over the S8. Not to mention being a good bit cheaper too.

It feels like to me the S7 is a plenty good enough device with more than sufficient resources to handle what I need and want from it. I feel like while the S8 line obviously has some more advanced tech and specs in it, the S7 line to me is the best Samsung has made to this point. And so long as it gets the security updates, and Oreo, I feel like I made a solid choice in selecting this phone in terms of service and longevity.
