One such is PdaNet. It's free in the Google Play Store (paid app gains access to secure websites). It's good to know my paid subscription from back even before 2010 is still valid!

See website:

PdaNet -- USB Tether/Bluetooth DUN for Android

Supports USB and Bluetooth tethering, though due to the Galaxy III being new, wifi tethering is not supported (but will be in a future update). There you have it, folks. If one of your sole reasons for rooting is for tethering access, you can do it the easy way :P

Isn't that the one that has a one time charge of $30? My friend used that one a year or so back i believe. He was afraid to root

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Android Central Forums

You also have EasyTether for those of you who are too chicken to root. I've used these apps but its MUCH better to tether while rooted. It just works better!

I've always used PDANet and love it! Use it mostly when I'm on the train to NYC and it keeps me connected so I'm not bored in transit and if the hotel doesn't have wifi it's a good alternative.

FoxFi is not compatible with the GS3 at t his time. They are working to update it.

I know this may seem like a silly question to most of you...but please humor me:)

Is tethering the same as using your phone as a hotspot? One of my daughters has an iPod touch, the other is getting a tablet for her birthday and I was trying to figure out how to keep them 'connected' for when there are no wi-fi options, like in the car.

While "tethering" includes wifi the term is usually used in reference to a wired connection ( usb cable for e.g. ) Wifi hotspot "tethering" usually can connect several devices at once while cable tethering connects just one.

You can use the SwitchPro Widget too. In one click, it activates your WiFi hotspot function w/o root or any changes to your phone at all.

This is a bit random, but still relevant. Has anyone flashed Android on to a Touch Pad, and used PDAnet or any other app for non-root, USB tethering, and succeeded?
