G board and gifs.

Hey guys. I decided to try Gboard and it's fantastic. One quick question I had, if anyone can help. While using the stock messaging app why won't it allow me to attach a gif to a message? I get the message can not attach file. Please help

Samsung is just weird/dumb when it comes to this. Try a 3rd party app to get this working such as Textra.

Textra and Gboard is a great combination for sending GIFs.....

But not a great combination for sending live messages...

Sometimes I want to send gifs and sometimes I want to send live messages, so I go back and forth between the stock messaging app and Textra until Textra can get it together. Mildly annoying.

(it works with Samsung keyboard for GIFS) and use Swype keyboard and then when i want to insert a GIF, I just click on the keyboard in the lower right hand corner and change it to Tenor keyboard so I can insert the GIF. That way I have GIFs and Live messages. And everything works.

I downloaded Gboard and the keyboard is my favorite. Way less typos. Textra seems awesome so far. Is that process a lot of steps. I don't send live messages that often

Same, but I use Swiftkey & Tenor GIF with the stock keyboard. All you have to do is type a pound sign (#) in the message text, and tenor pops up it's GIF insert dialog. Works like a charm, and you don't lose any functionality (ex.- live messages, Message Backup & Sync or texting over Wifi (if you're on AT&T))... Despite a strong preference for Textra, I gave up using 3rd-party SMS apps some time ago because of that sort of thing.

Yes forgot about the # sign as it wasn't working on my Note 5 so went the old school route lol

What's wrong with live messages? It should go through unless you have the limit for MMS set to high and your carrier is rejecting it.

If you take the S-Pen out and do Live Messages from Air Command, you should be able to send the message that way. But as I found out, Android Messages will say it is too large to send. Samsung Messages doesn't have this problem and it sounds like Textra doesn't have it either.

Gifs and other mms messages send just fine with Textra, live messages not so much.

What setting do you use for mms limit?

1 MB is usually what I go with. Seems to send fine then.

Just tried Textra again... Gifs fine, live messages fail to send, even at 1 MB

Hm damn. I was sure that was it since a lot of people set it high.

Well damn... That sucks . Sorry I wasn't much help on that one.

No worries, it was worth a shot. Samsung messaging app has actually grown on me...

I can't get gifs to play correctly using Samsung messages. They play very fast when sent, but play normal in the gallery. Textra and a few other apps I have tried work fine. Anybody have any idea why they play so fast? sorry for the off topic question.

What is tenor? I just got Google Pixel XL 2. Mine came with whole setup for gifs and have her using them fine until today. Now when I select anything, won't even open. I changed nothing.

I use Gboard and Textra. Gifs and Live messages work just fine.

AT&T and limit set to 1 MB.
