G2 or Note 3

I have all the Samsung and AT&T crap turned off and I'm running between 750mb and 1.2g. I haven't gone over 1.3g since I got the phone on Saturday.

I was torn between the N3 and the G2 for a while so I spent a few lunch hours in the store comparing them. With nothing turned off of either display phone the G2 was using more RAM. Not sure why but it was staying around 1g even after I closed every app using the RAM manager. The N3 seemed to use less RAM than the G2. The G2 is a sharp phone and would, without a doubt, be in my pocket right now if it wasn't for the N3. The screen is awesome, processor is obviously fast and I even like the buttons on the back. I don't like the shiny plastic back but I was going to buy a white one and put a gray Incipio feather case on it. Anyway, I got a blk N3 instead, primarily because of the 3g of RAM. If the G2 had 3 gigs i would have bought it!! .....and saved 100 bucks:)

You find the G2 camera that much better? I have G2 now and the camera seems hit or miss. Blows out a lot of whites. Also struggles with any action type shot even in day light. I was thinking the camera was close to a wash between the two devices. Was going to return G2 for Note 3 based on this theory.

I agree with everything you've said but I think the OIS saves me a lot of blurry pictures... I guess I just have trouble holding steady for a picture! ;-)

Really wish the Note 3 would have came with OIS as rumored. There's always the Note 4.... :-)

Note 3 is too big but maybe I would get used to it. Android 4.3 is a plus. Both have super fast processors. Wont use s pen at all. Which should I buy? Why?

I think once you try the note 3 you will be surprised how fast you get used to the size. I came an iPhone4 to the Note 2 and it took me maybe 1/2 a day to get used to the size. Now I can't imagine going to anything smaller.

It was between these same phones for me. A few things swayed me to the N3.

-dev support
-accessories will likely be much more common for the Note
-s finder (seriously, it's pretty cool. If you haven't see it, find some videos online)

It took me about a day to get used to the size. I think I'd have trouble going back now.

It amazes me nobody complains about difficulty carrying it around. I have always used a holster because I hate stuff in my pockets but I think I would have to pocket carry something that big. I also like a case making it even bigger. Heck, if they didn't stop supporting LED notifications I'd buy a droid maxx. I like that size best.

I've had my Note 3 now for a week and it is still somewhat uncomfortable to carry around inside my front right pants pocket, especially inside a couple of work dress pants. It fits fine inside my regular pants, shorts, and jeans though.

I do like to take it out before getting inside the car and getting seated.

I went from an LG G2 to a note 3. I had the G2 for 5 days before I traded up. It was a great phone but the note 3 is better. Plus the camera takes better low light pictures.

Note 3 in my opinion.

I did just the opposite. I had a Note 3 for one week and then ordered a G2. My white g2 arrived yesterday and I couldn't be happier. I don't feel like the Note 3 is put together very well. The chrome around the edge is plastic and the home button is poorly designed. It's not built to last very long.

I think once you actually used the s pen you would find yourself using it quite a bit. That is what happened for me anyways. I pull that thing out when I have no need for it.

So how about an opinion from someone who uses and owns both a GN2 and GN3? :)

What I like about the GN2 - it comes down to Size, Screen, and pen functionality for me.

Size- being that it fits for me not too big not too small (ya, it even fits in my pockets- I must have really big pockets- or I don't really wear skin tight clothes?).
Screen- very bright very clear... my old eyes can actually read the letters even on bad looking web pages... I like that.
Pen- this for me is the primary reason to have a Note verses say a Galaxy S4 (I know some may argue that point and lean away from the pen and more towards the screen size- I can see that).

The GN2 is very good choice for getting started with deciding is this a good fit for your needs... With the price of GN2 dropping like a rock, and if this is a concern you need to keep in consideration... then start with a GN2.

What I like about the GN3 - everything in the list above :) -and-

The better speed of the new hardware (not that I can really really tell that much). But the GN3 is on the latest OS and there are many, what I consider, improvements with the UI. Most of these I like... some I will need to get use to...

The Camera... the Camera.... oh, the Camera! Aside from the debate on weather more pixels is better (it's really not, btw). The Camera software in the GN3 is just better. Now, keep in mind, I'm not one of those that bought this device for the Camera.... please, I have a DSLR for that. But I can say that in a pinch when I want a good at-hand camera, the GN3 is just plain better.

The S-Pen stylus - same basic size etc, but you can now put the thing back in the phone in more than one direction. Seems a like small thing.. yeah, but it's not if you are a heavy S-Pen user.

And the S-Pen software on the GN3 - I think it's just better. The features are better thought out and seem more useful to me. But again, this is based on being a S-Pen heavy user.

The next point about the GN3, Jelly Bean 4.3. Now I gather that at some point the GN2 will maybe get up to 4.3? With the GN3 you are there. Now 4.1.2 (the GN2) OS, nothing wrong here and it certainly is very good, but 4.3 feels smoother and faster- I bet it more due to the better hardware on GN3, but I really can't say, I would need a GN2 on 4.3 to understand that.

And finally, the GN3 does have a brighter screen and for outdoor use... you bet this is better! I can see the GN2 screen mostly, but the GN3 screen... yeap it's better...

Anyway, I hope all of that gives a little light on the topic...

I have noticed the gn3 makes my eyes tired after staring at it for 10 or more hours at a time. LOL
The first 2 nights I got it I never put it down!

so the plastic back cover is nice? i did not like the plastic feel of the phone, it felt cheaply made. i instantly put a case on it. the note 3, naked most of the time. and the verizon lg g2 buttons were smaller than the other versions, which made it a bit more difficult to use. and the speaker grill looked aweful.

I own them both at the moment. I got the G2 the day it was available from At&t and recently ( this past weekend), purchased the GN3. It depends on your need/taste and what's comfortable for you. Each devices has its strengths and weaknesses. I owned the Galaxy Note 2 last year when it came out-and owned it for about 6 months... I could never get used to the width but I liked (a lot) several of the features ( s-pen, larger screen etc) when I got a chance to play with the GN3 I could immediately tell the difference in width and overall weight.- It just felt solid, which I like. For now, Im going to hang on to the G2 but I might end up selling it or just occasionaly swap out between the two. - The only thing I am disappointed in with my GN3 is that is doesnt have the black theme sms app like the one I played with at BB. That actually really sucks that At&t opted to go with white background as the only option. I started a thread on this btw. Other than that, the GN3 is an awesome device.

The OP wants comparison with the LG G2... Not the GalaxyNote2. Good points though

Ooopss I missed that... ummm odd that G2 stands for an LG device. So G2 = LG's G2 (?) and a G3 is a Samsung Galaxy III and a G4 is a Samsung Galaxy IV? Or are those LG devices too? Sorry, I'm so confused :).... and GN2 and GN3 those are Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3, right?

~ScottGeek

Hey Scottnif you want to be a geek you have to be current! LOL Why would I compare an ancient galaxy to a new note 3? Yes, by G2 I meant LG G2. My sig tells you which I chose.
