G3: Regrets? Happy? On the Fence?

very happy with my G3 and the decision to switch from samsung. I have had used 3 sammy phones for past 4 years each of them having the amoled screen. On each of these devices I always used to dim the brightness cause the vivid samoled is actually unnecessarily saturated for me. I am glad with G3's display and its dimness. I do not care about the low marks in the an tu tu cause the gaming performance is pleasing for me. the stutter is here and there but it is bearable. overall I am very happy. been using it for 4 days.

Started my Droid journey long back in 2010. Have been jumping of n on since then. Had been using SGS2, Sony Xperia TX, SGS3, HTC ONE and now LG G3.

Well,I think I am on the fence with the purchase. On the Pro's, the phone is blazing fast, lovely screen, handy features and total customization. (I show off tap to unlock :) )
On the Cons, I wonder why LG didn't put a dedicated battery saver feature rather than just a few toggles and screen / vibrate options. Screen, though immensely beautiful, is a pure battery killer. Can't help with that. QHD is a burden on battery life. That's the only problem. The phone can't carry on the day with a moderate / heavy-ish usage.

I dearly miss extreme power saver on my HTC ONE M7.

No regrets otherwise, what-so-ever

^^^You can set the remaining battery charge percentage to different settings in Battery Saver. Also, typically what screen brightness are you using? Roughly how many hours of screen-on time?

The G3 for me is one of the better devices to be released this year.

Lg focused on some strong points...

1)Ease of use point and shoot Camera

2)Ui design change that pleases the majority

3)Knock Code and on/off a very great feature.

4)Build & Design is in my opinion fantastic.

5)Screen is softer toned but one that I like quite a lot.

These are just a few points of course...and yeh I'm still happy with my purchase.

I tried, really tried to keep the Nokia Lumia 1250 after the 14 day return window. What a great phone! But, I just couldn't live with the Windows Store App selection. So regrettably I headed back to Samsung and the Note 3. But the Note 4 was going to be here in 3 weeks. So I bit the bullet and with recommendations from some trusted sources and figured I could live with the touted LG G3 for a year (AT&T Next plan). In the 3 days I've had and used the LG G3 I have absolutely fallen for that phone. And it's so good to be back to Android! If I wasn't so elderly, I'd say that phone really rocks! Great screen, speed, reliability and size. And the battery gets me through the day with high moderate usage and a 35% charge left. I would have no hesitation in recommending this as a fine phone from a user's, not a technocrat (wish I was, but I'm not one) perspective.

I am off the fence.

I have now played with the Samsung UI extensively and all I can say is... what a pain in the backside. I don't get it, but I know that can be fixed. The S5 screen has higher contrast - but I am ruined now by qHD. In my G3 kindle app I have fonts with the finest little serif, just perfect, it's like reading paper - the closest I have ever had to paper. I can increase the display brightness to match the daytime performance, but then I see the battery dive...I am willing to take a small hit (but still be decent) in CPU performance for the screen, but, at the end of the day, battery drain at high display brightness settings was my singular biggest issue with the phone.

... Until I found out that I can buy 3800maH batteries at aliexpress (two of them, along with a charger for $70) - and the batteries fit in the stock case! The 3800maH battery is a GAME CHANGER FOR THIS PHONE. That is a 25% boost in battery power... With the bigger battery the G3 lays waste to any competition.

The future is all about qHD, and the LG G3 has obliterated the screen size to footprint ceiling. Those who say it doesn't make a difference today haven't spent time with the phone.. or maybe they just have such poor eyesight that it doesn't matter to them. The editor at PCmag said as much - he couldn't see the difference, but he handed the phone to his tech wiz guys and they were bowled over, telling him it was incredible.

As others said, the smart guys this year bought the LG G3.

Love the phone, do not love the battery life. For a 3000 mAh, it should do much better. I have my display down to 25 percent. Hope a future update will manage it a little better.

Buy the above mentioned 3800mAh batteries.

YMMV.... I mean, coming from a Nexus 5, I'm pretty stoked over the battery. For my typical usage, I could push it to 36 hours between worshiping at the charger alter. But I typically do a one-a-day fill up.

I'd be REALLY wary about those aftermarket batteries like that. Mis-labeled batteries are a common occurrence and in some cases, faulty batteries are altered to bypass the on-cell protection circuits, relabeled and sold. Not saying these are..... I'm a person always out looking for a deal, but I rarely skimp on LiPo batteries.... those things can really ruin your day if they fail.

If that's a real issue, it could happen with a bone stock battery too. But if you search these forums you'll find people have bought another LG G3 battery sold from that website, on ebay for $200. I'll let you know how they work when they get here - it should show up immediately if the on-board detection has been overridden or is not present or working.

Here are the relevant phones I own/owned - for reference. HTC and several Motorola's of which names escape me they were so incapable, Note2, Note3, S5.

The LG G3 is Noticeably slower - as in it just doesn't react to commands quickly...takes seconds to switch tasks, seconds to update the screen, etc.

On the plus side the interface is clean and there are a lot of options - but take away 1/16 of the screen for buttons?!?! what the hey? That is so 1987!

I will have this phone for sale as soon as the note 4 hits.

You may ask why did I buy it in the first place? My Note3 had an accident - broke the glass and the Cell Phone Repair shop broke the screen fixing the glass. Reviews here and elsewhere convinced me to try the LG G3 - BOAT ANCHOR. Oh and out of the box the battery life is horrible! My Samsungs all went 14+ hours out of the box and this LG burns through the battery in two hours of use. And just for the naysayer in you I am using it the exact same way.

Tried it - hate it. Going back to Samsung

I sense a lot of bull$hit in your 1st post newcomer...

LOL. Is this for real?

1. Seconds to switch tasks, or update screens? If this is true, your phone is BROKEN. While it may not be as fast as the fastest phones out there, there is no way it's taking SECONDS. And you say the battery ran down (assuming from a full charge) in two hours? Again, your PHONE IS BROKEN. Is your phone under warranty? How long have you had it? I'd be getting a replacement. Any phone can be broken out of the box, so this is not a real issue with the LG G3, just yours.

2. They're virtual buttons. You can set them to disappear in apps if you want. Something you can't do with the gigantic, real-estate grabbing, samsung home button. Again, not a real issue.

3. There's nothing wrong with switching to a Note 4. I'd be a liar if I said I won't be looking at it myself.

Love this phone. Came from the G2 and still felt it was a huge upgrade. Only thing I am not happy about is the common stress crack at the bottom of the phone. The G2 had the same issue. Yesterday, however, I noticed that the top is doing the same thing. Have never dropped it or anything, and its spent almost all its time in a Spigen Slim Armor case. Might try and take it to big red and see if they can do anything for me. (Not getting my hopes up lol)
