G4 camera: officially disappointed

Yes, the FV5 camera does take very nice quality shots. The lag is surprising; I'd understand if it was just saving photos that took a long time (due to the 16MP), but even just clicking between the focus and exposure settings.

I wonder if XCam LG will get updated to work with the G4. I had that on my G3 and LOVED IT. It gives you the stock camera interface from the G2 (so you can change camera preset modes) as well as change video bitrates, and most importantly...TURN OFF NOISE REDUCTION.

The only issue I have with Google Camera, is that they have yet to update it with Camera API2. Seeing as this is a new feature with Lollipop, I find this flabbergasting that Google still hasn't updated with their own API.

I agree on the lag part, it takes forever to do anything, including snapping a shot. It takes great pics though.

I should mention that when I was talking about taking multiple shots, is referring to the stock LG camera app.

The only thing I missed from the G4 camera coming from Galaxy Note 2 are the quick scene selections in auto mode.. beach, sport, fireworks, etc... Those pre-selected settings are really handy in auto mode. I actually don't use the auto mode in the G4 too much unless I just want a quick pic... it only takes a few seconds for me to switch to manual and adjust. I am getting pretty fast at it now.

Yup - the free version was fine. The paid version is very slow.

I tend to agree; I think FV5 is best suited to when you're not in a hurry, taking time to compose your shots, choose your settings... and then bam, you get a really nice manual shot. Re noise reduction, when I did my photos for the "light bulb" photo contest (http://forums.androidcentral.com/ph...l-photo-contest-light-bulb-4.html#post4522090 Have you put in an entry yet?) I took the photos in a dimly lit room and completely forgot to lower the shutter speed and ISO, forgot to use the little tripod I have for the phone. It wasn't till I looked at the raw photos on my computer that I saw the "noise" I induced on the photo. Even so the shots turned out great, certainly good enough for viewing on a web site.

I agree. I don't see much evidence of excessive noise reduction here.
