G4 - Constant Wakelock and Battery Drain

I have constant wake lock and battery drain from android system. It is using around 50% of my battery life. When my screen is off it is 100% of the time in wake lock according to gsam. I tried a reboot and battery pull and I'm still getting the same. If anyone could direct me to something that will find the wake lock or if they know how to stop it, it would be greatly appreciated. Luckily my 2nd battery is helping ease this terrible battery life.

Try Wakelock Detector to see what's keeping it awake. (If it's not rooted, see Wakelock detector with non-rooted phone. It's a bit of a pain, but you'll only need to get the information once or twice.)

I have the exact same issue (on Verizon). I am going to give Wakelock Detector a try. Until then, I have become nearly certain that my home WiFi router is the biggest issue. This morning I reserved the IP addresse for my G4, and all the other devices on our home network, as suggested in an older online discussion I saw regarding this issue. In turning on the WiFi on the G4 briefly, the wakelock issues in Android OS seemed to continue. So the IP reservation didn't seem to help.

I'm going to split the WiFi issue out to its own thread, given it's a specific problem in and of itself.

Well, after several days of reinstalling a few apps that showed an issue I thought might suggest a deeper problem (i.e. not pushing notifications when it should be), and some trial and error things (i.e. shutting off Verizon Advanced Calling 1.0 a.k.a VolTE), I am all but certain that the Android OS issue with out of control keep awake times is the fualt of my home WiFi router.

Now, I don't have any obvious performance issues otherwise, but switching off the WiFi, or leaving the house, has seemed to slow the Android OS keep awake times to a crawl...until I reconnect to the home WiFi. I am generally not fsr from the router when at home, as well.

I'm going to try out Wakelock Detector to try and confirm this even more strongly, but I am 90+% sure the WiFi router is an issue.

So, what do I do?

This morning I reserved IPs for all the devices in our home network, including my G4. A quick toggle and check seemd to start the keep awake flood anew, so I don't think the resevred IP helped.

Are there any other things you would recommend? I have a Cisco Linksys AC3200 that is only a couple of months old. By and large it is speedy and reliable overall.

Now I wish I had taken screenshots of Android OS when I went cell radio, no Wi-Fi, and had 4 hours SOT with 24 hours up time. Could have helped with some analysis.

However, you and I seem to have pretty different Android OS keep awake times and I leave Wi-Fi on 24/7 for the most part.

I have a Netgear Nighthawk.

Are you able to run cell radio only for a full cycle to see if anything changes?

I ran this morning with just the cell radio and even without a full cycle the difference was immediatly noticable. I observed over more than 5 hours. Even switching the WiFi back on resulted in a noticeable increase in that Android OS wake rate.

I have seen the 2 hours in 5 or 6 hours rate go down slightly the past few days as a result of some other twweaks (or maybe just coincidence), but the rate with WiFi off is noticable after a short time.

Interesting. I have disabled my location and wifi right now and am trying to see if it will help. I wonder if it has something to do with using wifi calling, as that's what I setup recently. The wakelock detector isn't working but I'll give it another shot tonight.

Hasn't been a full battery cycle for me but my wake lock is still 100% of the time with wifi and location disabled. Disabled all my smart home and unlock settings but it did not help.

I'm back with my update.

Wi-Fi On and screen off for 3h 38m, Android OS had keep awake of 27m 57s.

Wi-Fi off (LTE) and screen off for 3h 48m and keep awake for Android OS was 20m 17s.

So about 8 minutes less keep awake with Wi-Fi off.

Another interesting one was Android system.

With Wi-Fi on, keep awake was 7m 52s.

With Wi-Fi off Keep Awake only 28s.

I would say you are possibly on to something although with my phone it doesn't seem to be a killer.

As I type this I'm at 12h up time, 4h 15m SOT, Wi-Fi was on just short of 7 hours today and I'm still at 19%.

I think I found the culprit for me: nlpwakelock
Now I have to figure out how to stop it.

Tried this and Uninstalled Playstore updates and reinstalled. No luck.

I disabled Google Now and stopped the location tracking. Turned my location to battery saving as well. My standby battery drain was even worse this time and I had strange gaps in my battery graph.

I saw this in an old thread as a possible reason for this issue. Try re-seating the SIM card. It didn't help my issues, but I guess it sometimes can.
