G5 owners - happy or not?

Love the phone, every aspect of it, at least mine lol, i know how these could vary on a case by case. The only gripe have is the battery, at work due to low signal my battery is done by 3pm. My phone's an unlocked version, don't know if it has anything do with that fact that i cant enable Wifi calling, but i think that would help with the low signal issue.

I also work in a dead zone. The Wi-Fi turns on at 6:30 am. I'm there as early as 3:00 am some days. It's so much of a dead zone, if I don't put my phone in airplane mode I'll be charging immediately after I arrive home.

Not trying to solve your problem, just saying I feel your pain. I'm on T-Mobile, Wi-Fi calling isn't a problem for me.

Edit: I should have said I have a T-Mobile G5, to be clear.

Damn, not sure whats going on. Thinking theres a little more than the dead zone. I swapped out the battery last night, used it a bit and went to sleep at 85% to only wake up today at 50%. I don't think this is normal. I also don't have the wifi calling enabled, just to be sure, is it checked on under Settings>Network>Advanced calling, i can't seem to turn on HD calling here.

What drained my battery, as per the battery usage screen was the "Network" and the "Idle" The only thing i could think or guess its causing it would be leaving the wifi on when the screen is off. I've never had this issue with any of my phones plus i don't want to use my data in the background so i want everything to go through the wifi.

Pretty down about this, i really like the phone. I'll be trading in today to see if i get a replacement or just simply return.

Any help would really be appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge if the network is draining your battery, your phone is constantly trying to pull down a signal. Always working, eating up battery.

The trouble is, if I'm not mistaken your device should fall into Doze overnight.

Yeah, I would swap it out. Hopefully you just got a wonky device.

Hey, I've got a question.

What apps do you have installed? Any chance you got an app like Facebook installed?

There was a time where my OG LG G4 drained it's battery completely overnight from 100% when idle. I had to turn off Wi-Fi to make the drain way, way, WAY more palatable.

Your network settings aren't set to "global" by any chance, are they?

I've got an S7E that was "free to me" through the BOGO deal... Picked up a G5 yesterday.

-G5 fingerprint sensor reminds me of the 6P; its quick and accurate, more so than the S7E.
-S7E screen is better
-G5 camera is maybe a little better in terms of quality, but is a little slower to shoot; the wide camera is great though
-G5 is quick, very quick so far....
-Battery is up in the air

I wish the G5 was waterproof like the S7/S7E and I'd have a hard time choosing. I live in Florida and we live by the pool, so waterproof is important. :)

I do have Facebook installed, you think it'll drain the phone like this?? Even when i have background data disabled for apps like Facebook, instagram. I don't doubt it could do something to the battery but also think any phone should be able to work with apps like these without killing the battery. Cant hurt to try uninstalling and checking. Thanks for the help.

Yes they were. I stumbled upon those settings while trying to discover something that could change things around or me. I do recall changing it to LTE.. or something of that nature. Does this make a big difference? Whats the right setting to have it in. I just ordered a replacement to see if things work out this time.

Appreciate your help guys, any settings you could have me check i'd gladly look them over . Really liked everything on the phone. The two top battery consuming factors were "screen" and "network" which is odd, i had never seen "network" as the secondary major cause of battery consumption.

Lifeproof makes a case for the G5. :)

I played around with my sister's G5 today and I loved it. I think the camera is better than the one on the S7 edge and I love the wide angle lens!

Do you know how this case is? I just ordered an otterbox but the lifeproof looks awesome.

I don't own the G5 yet, but I've always had nothing but positive results with Lifeproof cases.

I had an HTC 10 and returned it and got the G5. I really like this phone so far. I have not noticed any of the build quality issues to this point.

I'm with you - I have a G4 and I always loved HTC - got a 10 and it went back and the G5 is on the way!!

Ive just unboxed and played around with my new G5 from O2 UK.. and maybe Iam lucky but I cant see any seperation between the body and the battery module also the rear panel is perfect..

Ive owned ALOT of handsets including the G4 and what Ive seen so far, Im really liking the G5, although I do admit the rear of it looks like a Robot :), but to me that gives it a different look and makes it stand out from all the iPhones and Samsungs you see everywhere.

Im hoping to get the HiFi DAC module at some point..

So far, great device.. :)

We love our g5's. Have had them since release. Just love how fast they are going from one thing to another. Even multitasking is fast. I came from an amoled screen and got to say I love the ips screen. Easier on the eyes, better color imho.
The cameras are great, I think they trump my lumia icon.
The puppy buried the remote somewhere earlier and wow, the ir blaster came in handy. Who'd a thunk!
My first Android ever and am very happy I made the switch from Windows. Took a bit but I eventually came around.
Going with the g5 was a good move for me. Love it!

So far, I'm Happy. Love the camera, love the speed. Was a hard decision, I loved my M8 Windows phone but Microsoft has some things to work out, So really the choice for me was either the S7 or the G5, I read a lot of the reviews and comments on both phones and as great as the screen is and the S7 is a really good looking phone, I chose the G5. Why? Camera, changeable Battery, better speaker and I liked the feel of the phone in my hand. After the first few days, my Battery settled down and I get good life out of it, nothing like my Windows phone but not bad either, from 6:00 am till 12:30 am depending on the day I am hardly ever below 50%. No games, but I am on it a lot. And this phone charges smoken fast. And I know someone is going to ask. Why didn't you consider the HTC 10, it is a nice phone and has great sound, I just don't trust them about updates and camera and HTC is kinda circling the drain and one hit phone is not going to save them. And the other Question, I am using Google now, Didn't like the LG launcher, and really did not like no APP drawer, and I know I could get it back, and I did, but still didn't like LG's version. So yes, So Far I am Happy with my choice.

Really interesting stuff here. I have a note 3 and love it yet considering switch to LG just because I do not want to lose ir blaster. I don't use it every day but when I need it it is fantastic to have.

In Samsung fantasy land everyone has all brand new devices using rf or wifi remotes so nobody needs ir anymore. What nonsense. I doubt that more than 1% of the homes in USA don't have a single ir controlled device and most have several.

I was thrilled when lg moved the volume rocker back where it belongs but the power button should also be on the side. I can live with it on the back but limits case choices. I always use kickstand cases capable of portrait and landscape viewing.

Very disappointed in smaller screen. G4 size was perfect imo. Note a little large. V10 too big.

Reading this thread and others here I now know I need to be concerned with static on headphones, poor gps, bad auto brightness software, and a screen not bright enough to use in bright sunlight.

It's too bad. LG is the only one still using ir blaster I want but I NEED great gps and bright screen so I can only hope the G6 is a little bigger and works better. In the meantime I hope my Note 3 holds out.

Funny.....I felt that LG got it wrong with moving the volume buttons to the side....ewwww haaa I love the power and volume on the back. I cant imagine going back to side buttons again.....always in the way of tripod grips and car holders ....and too many accidental hits. I dont miss calls or txts with buttons on the back. My volume us always set where I left it.

I use a vent car holder. No problem with any side buttons. Claws are movable. How could I reach buttons on back? Impossible. If you love G4 or V10 it is a big change. This is the first LG I really wanted but too many issues. One not mentioned is I repeatedly tried taking close ups of fine print and comparing S7 in VZW store. Not one LG pic (i tried 10) came out as good. Strangely, I often take pics of fine print at work. I have no use for wide angle. Only my wife and I. We don't travel. The camera was the deal breaker but I wojld have loved the led, the ir blaster, sd card, and removable (albeit too small) battery

Must have something not set right or it was a bad unit as I see no issues with fine print on my copy
