G5 owners - happy or not?

Well, I just told my wife that I am returning the LG. Fortunately, she did not become attached to it.

She wasn't happy about these issues and now just wants to use her HTC. She may consider the next iPhone as an option but nothing until then.

As you say, LG needs to get their house in order. Perhaps the next Google phone will kick some butt but in my experience LG has issues. The Nexus 5 seems to be an exception though. I also haven't found LG appliances reliable.

Our washer/dryer is LG. Couldn't be happier. And I still think about my Nexus 5.

I'm also looking at a 2016 Nexus. If it's true and it is HTC, it will certainly peak my interest.

Again, sorry about your G5 experience.

I know most of the reviews i read from the first batch of devices are that the quality control was slacking, maybe its no different today. I'm looking to get a smaller (under 5.5") device. I tried the HTC 10, don't like it, battery isn't great, the camera is bad and a few other things left me quite disappointed, except the build quality which was great.

So on to the recent opinions and experiences. I did have a chance to play with one at Best buy and liked it. The camera seems pretty nice and i like the software, looks and feel. Felt pretty snappy and responsive. Hows the brightness response, one thing i didn't like about the HTC the auto brightness was really bad for me and it would also jump to full brightness when coming out of the camera app.

hows the battery -
hows the wiggle back button -
hows the most recent build quality -
hows the brightness, auto response -

Thanks in advance for your opinions and thoughts.

If I could go back in time, I'd have kept my G4 a few more months...Loved that phone.

I just switched from G4 to HTC 10 and it's going back. Big HTC fan but it wasn't what I thought it would be.
I'm thinking about getting another G4. The G5 just seems like a step back to me.

My G5 went back, and I'm sticking with the S7 Edge. If I didn't like the S7 Edge, I would have stayed with the G4 (which to date has been my favorite phone). I'm not big in processing power - but the G5 internally is an upgrade in every way over the G4 - more ram, better processor, better GPU, etc. Externally though it wasn't for me - the design I liked but the build I didn't - I had 2 G5s over all! In the end, I want to love my device :) Especially for the price!

What's wrong with the HTC 10?

In the end that's what matters....you should always get what makes you happy.
They are all great phones with their strengths and weaknesses.

I had an HTC 10 for a about a week but returned it for the G5 (even did the bogo deal for a backup phone with the G5). The 10 was perfect in my hand but the camera had fuzzy pictures, there's supposed to be an update out for that but who knows when verizon will release it. The photos weren't always fuzzy, if the lighting was perfect so was the photo. I had random hang ups of unresponsiveness with the phone also for some weird reason and clearing cache and restarting didn't stop it from happening. My biggest complaint was the camera. I use these features all the time on a phone, camera, sms, phone, and web browsing. When this small group of features aren't functioning correctly then the phone isn't for me. The app drawer missing was a small hiccup with the G5 but once I searched the internet and found the LG Home UX 4.0 apk, I had the app drawer back. It feels light and kind of fragile in the hand but once I put a case on it I'm sure that will change. The G5 speaker is louder than the 10s, I don't know about the quality but the volume level is far above the 10. I'm happy with the G5.

It's a well built phone and I've had a bunch of HTC's - after checking it out in store I liked it and I went and bought one.
Couple of issue with everyday use that made me switch. I did'nt think going from a 5.5" to 5.2" would be that bad but it is smaller and not as wide as my G4 and looking at certain pages they get squished a bit.
Also this may sound weird but I hold my phone in one hand (left) and I curl my pinky finger underneath for support - right where the speaker is. Since the bottom speaker is the main it's not good.
The biggest and most important - I was getting lousy reception. No it's not a deadzone - my G4 gets 4 bars, brothers iPhone 3-4 bars a couple other people had plenty too. The HTC 10 I was LUCKY if I got 2 bars!!!

Just too much negative for me

Well I test drove the G5 and it left a lot to be desired from a QC standpoint. Not many times you can get 3 straight duds of the same model. All had reboot, overheating, and freezing problems. Well i hadn't tried LG since the G pro and it seems that I just don't have any luck with LG on any model. This was the last shot with me as a customer i won't ever try them again. My mileage with LG just isn't good at all, good luck to everyone else that got a good one.

I wasn't going to keep the G5 anyway but just testing the brand since it's been awhile and nothing has changed on my end.

That's interesting....I had 3 with no trouble as you describe

Any chance you could elaborate on the "reboot" issue? It's really my only concern. I've had no trouble with my G5.

That one reboot issue is probably tied to some kind of software issue and also because of the overheating failed to narrow it down. 2nd one would all of a sudden start to heat right when I turned it on from being off and then freeze and go through a couple boot loops sporadically. 3rd one pretty much got so hot that it smelt like burnt wires and then it just pretty much self destructed and wouldn't boot. I didn't even get to charge that one as it didn't make it setting up the phone and installing apps.

Is it possible all three had some software that you were using that caused that?

well the problems manifested on one from installing updates to preinstalled apps right out of the box. The others were loaded with regular apps that just about everyone installs nothing special are unique. Basically if it's an app problem that cause the issues then Google needs to get a grip on the app store and put some TLC & QC into how apps are made and function on their app store like Apple does. If it was software as in the image loaded or hardware issues which most likely it was then thats on LG and their not so stellar QC record on their phones. LG has had a couple generations now where they have boot loop, restart, and freezing problems on there phones which can only be Software QC problems on their end.

I love my g5. The battery is amazing as is the camera.I never experience lag and the build is just fine.I have mine in a poetic case and just love it. This phone gets so much bad flack but I think it is near perfect. Would have liked a 5.5 inch screen but I'm still very happy with it.

Strange that you would get 3 bum units. The one I'm holding in my hand is about a month old and not one hiccup. No lag, no lock up, no reboot.

I like mine. I keep going back and forth between it and the s7. I like that the s7 camera focuses so blanking quick and takes a shot faster than ever. I like that the G5 has the wide angle lens that I have been using more and more. Like that the s7 is water resistant. That the G5 isn't glass and doesn't seem as fragile. I like em both. I think it's hard to go wrong with any of the big phones released this year.

I miss the back buttons. I keep hitting the side toggle and accidently turn off sounds. I haven't looked if there was a way to lock it.

Probably one of the relatively few pieces of good news.

Love the phone, every aspect of it, at least mine lol, i know how these could vary on a case by case. The only gripe have is the battery, at work due to low signal my battery is done by 3pm. My phone's an unlocked version, don't know if it has anything do with that fact that i cant enable Wifi calling, but i think that would help with the low signal issue.
