G7 32bit dac. Does it require a break-in period ?

Just got my G7 today and first thing I wanted to test was the quad dac.

I used my AKG 55 ohm headphones and turned the dac on.

Sound was more spatial with better channel seperation but not *substantially* better than my old windows lumia 640!

If I turn the hifi dac off on the G7, the Lumia sounds better.

I am wondering if there is some sort of break-in period for the DAC to kick into hifi nirvana mode ?

My Audioquest dragonfly black did require break in as well so just curious if the same is true from other users with the G7.

No, the DAC is hardware - hardware doesn't "adapt" with use. (Hardware that appears to has software running in it - DACs don't.) The G7 may change with use. I haven't heard of "adaptive sound", but who knows what they added under the hood without telling us?

Have you tried an equalizer?

Thanks! Have not tried the EQ presets yet as I want to keep it neutral but eventually, I might try it if the sound does not improve.

Either that or my ears will adjust to the new G7 DAC sound signature :)

The DAC does sound good when connected via 3.5mm headphone jack to a Passive pre-amp [Schitt] that is in turn connected to powered Paradigm Active20 monitors.
