I tinkered around with the Galaxy Alpha free of wires recently, I was very impressed also the display feels tiny the build quality is first class, TouchWiz is very toned down and I quite like the phone, I think I could get used to it, however if this was say £350 ($550) then it would have sold like wildfire! I feel the high price tag should be reserved for the S line and Note line, it has top tier specs I know however I just feel its a missed opportunity! Also the 720p screen is just fine, its 4.7 inches so its fine! If it was 1080p, then battery life would have been extremely bad and I hear it's not very good as it is now. I preferred the Note4 but I like the Alpha! Makes the S5 look like junk, which I believe the build quality is!

I picked the Alpha over any latest flagship fone out there.. Alpha just seems the perfect fone for me.

I've finally seen one a few days ago. I really liked it! Simple and not-so-original design, but still classy and premium.

I agree with most of what you said about the alpha the biggest thing holding it back is the price for for $20 more you can get the galaxy s5 and if they had polished the metal band around it like on the note 4 that would have gave it more bling I still like it it just got over shadowed by its big brother the note4

I've had mine for about a week now. I like it. I'm a fan of smaller, more rounded phones (previously had an S4 Mini), so this is about as large as I'd want to get. It feels quite large to me. I'm also not a fan of the squarish corners. Those are minor peeves though. I like the phone. I just got the S-View flip case yesterday. I have the wireless charging cover on order. So far, so good.

It's on Amazon. It took a bit of effort to snap it in place, but it fits nicely and works as intended. you can customize the S-view, and the camera works easily though the cover.

Just got the wireless charging cover. Fits nicely and does the job just fine so far. Can't use both it and the flip cover at the same time though. Wireless charging is more important to me however.

Just a question.. why not just get a spare battery? Thats an instant 100% charge in no time.

I think the Galaxy Alpha would have been a home run if they gave it a better camera. Otherwise I think it's a great phone and the materials and build are excellent.

Not sure what your point is. I can still do that.

Asurion sent this me as an insurance replacement and it is going back. I'm returning it for 2 reasons. The absolute WORSE battery life of any phone I've had or heard about and the camera. Mostly, the battery. The S5 camera isn't that great either, but I have a Lumia 1020 and I'll be SIM sharing between it and the S5 that is on the way.

I like how much underrated the camera is...it's the same sensor as in the S5, it just shoots wide screen 16:9..try and switch S5 to wide 16:9, and see for yourself.. I'm verry happy with the phone overal, and the camera is pretty good. I'm coming from a 5" fullhd phone, and I don't find the alpha's screen pixelated

People these days don't like to read anymore..they just see 12mpx specs and directly are ready to dislike the phone...bad times are about to come..

I've had the Alpha for two weeks and I really like it. It's the first Samsung smartphone I've ever had. I feel like they finally nailed the design. I love how thin and compact it is. Really like the Super AMOLED screen, even at 720p. And TouchWiz isn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. The phone flies. Really happy with the Alpha. Job well done by Samsung.

What about the chamfords though like the Note 4, they scratch a lot easily from pulling out of pocket.

Yeah, I don't like cases. I think the Alpha is too pretty to cover up.

Im using a clear thin plastic case... then I just got this really thin kinda like film case, actually its kind of like a condom for my alpha lol. So it offer at least scratch protection

I haven't had any issues with the chamfered edges scratching. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Note 4's edges being more prone to scratching than the Alpha's. Alex Dobie eluded to that in his 3 months later article about the Note 4. I will say I'm really careful with the Alpha, though.
