I have a question, first let me explain.

I bought a 2012 Mini Cooper last December, I got this option called Mini Connected with Navigation.......you really need an iPhone to get the most out of the features integrated into the system. I have emailed one of the head guys that run BMW and he has assured me that Androis will NOT be supported .......searches in the internet say the same, anyway this fella emailed me back and forth several times.....basically Mini USA was lying......

my question, can I use my GNex as a hotspot and hook an iPod Touch to it?

I have an unlimited data plan.......

what app do I need for the hotspot?

thanks for the help

Just turn on the hotspot in the settings, it'll show up as a regular WiFi network on your iPod Touch. Done.

Christ, I feel like a total tool....thanks for the info..:)

just did it and it works.......I'll try it in the car as soon as I get a cheap iPod that runs at least ios 4.3......hoping there will be knock down prices after new ones are announced next week

Not sure they're announcing new iPods tomorrow...

But even as old as like the 2nd gen iPod Touch runs iOS 4.3 I think. Those things are super cheap.

Update - I bought a latest generation 8gig iPod Touch and the Mini Connected feature works flawlessly when tethered to my GNex....thankfully I have unlimited data

MINI CONNECTIVITY

they can do that? , I mean, out of all the connections they can isolate mine and know I am using an extra device?

Yes, they can do that because it's a violation of the TOS. Whether they'll catch you doing it or not (they'd have to notice unusual packet activity on your data connection) is hard to say.

Thanks for the info....I don't expect there will be a very noticeable increase in data....I use some of the features on my drive to and from work.....

no dont worry they wont bother you unless you'll eat like 5Gbs of data.. even then you can argue with them. Customer is always right!

Yeah, Sprint never noticed when I tethered on my rooted Epic 4G. But I only really did that when I was out of town staying at hotels for email/Facebook on my laptop because I refused to pay $10-20 a day for WiFi access.

But, there's always a risk in getting caught. :P
