Galaxy Nexus Battery Review...?

Obviously this question goes out to those of you who are developers or beta-testers that have the Gnex since it hasn't been released to the public yet..

I currently have a Droid-x and one of my biggest grips is the battery life. Now, by no means am I a heavy user... I would consider my usage to be "normal". I dont have alot of apps, nor alot of features running on the phone and still the battery life is an issue for me.

Has anyone performed a formal review of "battery performance" on these devices...? I understand the battery performance will vary depending on the individual (ie. txt time, 4G/WiFi, screen brightness, application syncing, etc...) But it hard for me to believe in this day and age of technology, that a developer would not be able to design a simulator that you could program variables such as (screen brightness 80%, avg texting throughout the day, applicadtion syncing, Cell searches, bluetooth, music usage, etc...) and be able to determine the average (daily) battery life based on that persons usage.

I think the biggest culture shock for me comming from a BB Curve/Tour (for work) to a DrodX was the battery life...

Okay...sorry guys/gals... kinda vented there, but I guess at a highlevel my question is, has there been any reviews on the battery life for this device that you could point me too...?

Thank you for your time...

When I had a droid x it had great battery life. You also have to take into account how much more and smoother the droid x does things compared to the bb. I mean web browsing is one thing that coming from a bb will obviously go up since on a bb it is so damn slow( i had the pearl, curve, storm, tour) and they all were a PITA and I barely if ever got on the web since it was such a hassle.

You may not want to hear this, but the Droid X has great battery life for Android. Possibly the best of its generation (ie. the other Android phones released that year). I only hope the battery life for the Galaxy Nexus is just as good.

Sounds like you need to learn how to better manage the battery.

I agree with you completly... the performance, functions, screen, etc... all out-weight the BB's... and I also agree that I'm not comparing apples to apples with regards screen size/processor -vs- battery life... I'm merley saying that these devices are being developed bigger, better, faster, however, if we have to turn the screen brightness down to 30% and turn off bluetooth or wifi and configure application sync'ing to twice a day in order to get thru a "normal" usage 8 hour day, then IMO, that's a problem.

IMO its like having an electric car that gets 100 miles to a charge, but if you use the radio, heater and lights, then you only get 45 miles per charge...PLUS, you dont have a charging station to "recharge" . I realize that I'm embellishing my point a bit... but I think you get my comment...

Well mostly the newer screens can be turned down much lower and still look better than older phones and even bb's for that matter. I see no reason with super amoled or the new lcd screens to have the brightness up that high especially with the higher and much clearer images that they display. You also have to remember that lte is still a relatively new tech and you can relate it to when 3g first debuted it was pretty awful with battery. Once second gen and further chips come the battery will increase.

As a Droid X user I also have awful battery life. With no use at night I can go to bed and wake up 7the hours later to the a 30%Droid battery. Originally I had great life but now 16that's months later not so much. Mt thought is that maybe the battery is just worn out after so many charges. I know back in the day batteries wore out often. What ye say fellow users?

I never keep phones long enough to be a good reference lol sorry.

Well, I leave mine plugged in overnight, and I haven't had any problems with it.

+1 for me too.... I plug it in around 10:ish... I'm out and out the door by 6:30am...stick it on the car charger on the way to work...and for the most part I have to plug it in via USB at work... and then I can get a day out of it. But in all fairness, I DO leave the bluetooth on all day, but again that goes back to my point of having a phone with all of these features, that you either have to "tune" down or turn off inorder to get thru the day without plugging it in.

To the point address above regarding the screen...it sounds like the screen power usage will be greatly decreased compared to the DroidX devices, but by the same token, one would think the Dual-core processors would "counter" the power usage savings from the new screen technology.

Again, I think we are getting a little off track from my orignal post... The power issues that we may / OR MAY NOT have with the Droid are in the past... my Thread question is around Battery Testing and Reviews with the GNex...?

Post them up if you have them... Thank you....

Yes, I've had the original Droid X since release day 1 and my battery life has been great overall. It got even better when I got Gingerbread. Barring watching videos all day, I easily get at least 14 hours on one charge with 'normal' or 'average' use.

If/when I jump to the Galaxy Nexus, I'm prepared to have to take a hit on battery life, especially because of LTE.

There should be a standardized test. Like charging until 100, turning on airplane mode, cranking up the screen to max brightness, and having it play Titanic or The Godfather (Any really long movie). Then compare the times. That really is the only way since service can vary by location, and service quality is a major player in battery life.
