Re: Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off

having the same issue as well.. it seems as if the device lowers the amount of resources available when the phone goes into sleep mode and causes it to skip.. REALLY annoying..

starred the issue on the link provided..

Also having this same issue. But I can't play music through the default music app to begin with. I don't know what that's about. All the music was transferred from the computer, saved to the internal memory, but the music app doesn't show ANY of it. Had to download winamp from the market. That shows all the music, so I know it's there. But even playing music through winamp, I have the problem you are talking about. Basically sounds like a CD skipping. Only when the screen is off.

try changing the settings to "offline music only" before I did that there was a bunch of nonsense showing on my library of music..

I listen to Google Music (on lne music and off line music) plus a stream app that plays a local AM station and have not had any problem with stutter or lag. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Re: Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off

Some more details... Google Music streaming works fine on my Nexus on it's "high audio quality" setting. And Slacker when playing at lower audio quality runs fine. It's only when I change it to "Best" that it starts to pause and stutter after a few songs once the screen has gone to sleep. I have played with various settings and tools to figure this out - seems to be a "lost audio focus" message or event involved. Definitely either an ICS problem, something with phone firmware, or the Slacker application itself.

Re: Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off

coming late to this party, but I just got a bluetooth speaker and my first day with it here in my office and I have discovered the stutter issue when the screen is off on my nexus 7. it only stutters every 4 seconds (I just measured). not bad, just enough to bother me like a leaky faucet. One thing I have noticed is that it doesn't always stutter, like now, the screen is off and it's playing fine. It usually does, but sometimes it stops without me changing anything at all. This is truly a random issue. Was hoping someone had figured this out already...

I have restarted my N7, tried different artists/albums, tried different players (google music and player pro), clearing notifications, disconnect with speaker and reconnect. All to no avail.

I am rooted running Paranoid Android 2.99 on Android Version 4.2.1...

anyone out there figure this out yet?

Not solved yet, and I think that even Samsung has no idea how to solve it. It started to stutter right after the update to Jelly Bean end october. I returned my phone twice already to the shop and it still isn't fixed. When I remove my Telenet SIM-card the stuttering is gone. And turning on the screen stops the stuttering also. Very strange.

Came across this :
The latest update for Winamp includes a fix for music ?stuttering? on devices powered by Android 4.2.x Jelly Bean. This has been identified after applying update 1.4.8 and it's caused by frequent notification updates.

Re: Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off

I just installed the latest version of Winamp and this problem still occurs, so that doesn't fix it.

I listen to music on my lengthy commute to and from work every day and this only started occurring today. As soon as I switch the screen off I get intermittent stuttering, like a CD skipping. It's really annoying!!!

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3 and this happens with Winamp, Rocket Player, Google's player. You name it, I've tested it.

Re: Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off

thanks.. poweramp and setting the buffer to 750 gradualy reduced stuttering to a point that it is acceptable. thanks a lot

but then again my ics android phone was just 5 days old so i went to the service center to maybe fix the problem completely.. they reformatted my phone... which did not work, it still was stuttering so i will get my replacement unit ASAP

Re: Music Stutter/Lag When Screen is Off

I downloaded PowerAmp from the Market, and increased its buffer to 750, and that solved the issue. It also solved the issue I had with lots of my MP3s having the same album art image.

Hey Thanks buddy, that fixed the problem :)

Thank you. I tried this today on my s3 and so far the buffer size increase seems to have done the trick. Quite like the player too.

On Deezer, enable offline mode (after sync your music) and the problem is solved.

CPU usage:
Online mode: 30%
Offline mode: 0.45%
