Galaxy Nexus or wait for OMAP5? Coming from BlackBerry, btw.

It's been a long time coming, but just doing some research into the hardware, would it be best to make the plunge now or wait until the hardware reaches the new plateau? I've read other threads about how pointless it is to contemplate un-released hardware, and others about "why wait when everything will eventually be obsolete?"

I'm just asking for any helpful insight. Again, it's not a question of if, but more a question of when.

Thx.

The Galaxy Nexus is by all indications shaping up to be a capable, smooth, and game changing device for Android. It's is the plateau right now. All ICS phones in the near future will be benchmarked against it. Even with its "modest" specs the fact that ICS is optimized for the hardware is going to make a very powerful device. Remember iPhone 4s does all it magic at a paltry 800 MHz. Its not always about raw power.

Bottom line: With tech advancing as fast as it is, you need to pull the trigger and hop on in at some time. The GN seems like its going to be a great starting point. If you keep waiting for the plateau you'll get nowhere fast and you'll be stuck on BB forever. At least with a Nexus device you know you will get the latest updates directly from Google for the foreseeable future and then from the dev community beyond that.... I fail to see where you can go wrong with a Nexus device if it meets your carrier, battery life, and storage needs.

If you play the waiting game, you will always see greener grass on the horizon.

Omap5 won't be out for quite some time.

The Galaxy Nexus is one of the best spec'd out phones you'll get in the coming months. Will there be better around the corner? Of course. But its hard to beat the Nexus experience that Google intended. Its an especially smart move if you're coming from a Blackberry, IMO. Its a good phone to enter Android with -- no need to wait.

Jump in and get your feet wet. There's always something new coming in Android world. Get the best device you can find that meets your requirements when you're ready to buy, and your phone will still be good 2 years later when you're ready to upgrade. Don't let yourself get caught in the game of comparing benchmarks or keeping up with the Jones's, as it's a waste of time. :)

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post and the great input. I will seriously consider the Nexus as my first Android.

Honestly there's a ton of phones that come out all the time, from top tier smart phones to lower end smart phones (and everything in between). I would suggest getting this phone because with the GN it isn't all about the hardware, its about the software and making the phone run and perform as smooth as possible. Like everyone has said, if you wait, you'll wait forever. Go ahead and take the bait; enjoy the Android experience with the GN!
