Galaxy S 2 Can work on At&T 3G

According to the guys at Android Central the international version that is coming out in March can work on AT&T 3G and HSPA+ in the US. If this is true I might need to cancel my Atrix 4G order.

If this is a true unbranded, unlocked device why would anyone ever buy a subsidized device from the operator?

That's what europe would like to know of the US consumer. They (Europeans) buy a phone, pick a carrier. That's the standard way of doing it from what I've heard.

We have no incentive to buy our own device most of the time here because the subsidy is payed for with fees rolled into our US phone bills. If you buy your own device and forgo the subsidized device, you're throwing money away.. something like $200-300 is my guestimate.

I will most definitely get the Int'l version as I bought also the Int'l version of the first Galaxy S1 for $600. As long as the frequencies run on 850/1900 MHz they will work on AT&T 3G/HSPA+ (so called 4G. Also when I bought my Galaxy S1 i9000GT I found out the prefix NAM stands for N. American version as it'll work on the US AT&T 3G as well as like two major carriers in Canada that use the same frequency as AT&T, I think is Rogers one of them if I'm no mistaking.

You can't go wring with the international version as it has no restrictions of any kind, you can do wireless tethering (mobile AP) w/o having to pay for tethering costs to at&t which would run you at about $45/mo. Heck I use my unlimited data plan $30/mo to periodically connect my notebook on the go at no additional charge. If you get the Atrix with AT&T, you will notice all these features have been blocked, removed and only the ones that AT&T can charge you and make profits from you are there, such as a mobile hot spot and so on.

You can't go wrong waiting until March and buying the Int'l version NAM and those $600+ are worth spending. It may cost more, but I already got $500 in saving waiting for the Galaxy S2 to come out, for this moment thanks to WMC we know now what to expect.

So you bought the original S1 international version for use in the US on AT&T? Where did you get it from for only $600 ? So did yours haves the same GPS issues that everyone else had?

I will wait for the reviews, as I tried the Captivate and did not like it but hopefully the S2 is better.

Yes I did get the original version, the i9000 GT for $600. Here in Miami, it is home to one of the biggest distributors of wholesale smartphones that ship to South America mostly and the Latin, Central and Carrebean sub-distributors. Of course not that many people know that a geek like me I know my way to find my way to electronics.

The guys know me from this place in specific I go, they are like dozens of shops one next to the other (like townhouses) for for almost five blocks full of shops to choose from, mostly they sell Blackberry but many carry other brands such as Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and so on. Geeks like us go crazy and wish I had a $1 million to buy smartphones they are all unlocked and either international versions (factory unlocked) or carrier unlocked mostly from AT&T (3G 859/1900 MHz) and Tmobile (3G 1700 MHz). So i have seen people walk in there and buy like 10 units at a time, getting huge discounts. Don't know how big of discounts, but if one blackberry 9700 street price is for example $500 and you buy 10 units, you can walk out of there paying only like $400/unit (yes that huge of a discount). Thanks God I live in Miami b/c the place us near my job (only 3 miles+ away) it's like on NW 72 avenue and b/t 25th and 29th street and around.

That's how I got it so cheap, b/c I saw some Galaxy S selling on eBay like for $750 I said OMG.

I for one would gladly spend the retail to not buy a subsidized device. Does anyone remember the days when you had to buy your landline thru ma bell? Those days should be over in the cell world soon hopefully

Subsidized US phones sold on eBay are way cheaper than an unlocked international one. For instance, the Vibrant was $400 or less whereas the Galaxy S was $600-700. Many people use their family plans to buy a subsidized phone and then sell it online for a profit. You can install a custom rom or change a few settings to make it international anyhoo. The US one is guaranteed to have the proper US bands as well, and better customer support since many companies do not support (or even speak the language or have support centers in the country) imported phones.

so glad i had trouble with the pre order last night. the atrix is out of date, out of the box. since i am a premier customer i could not order the atrix last night.

This pisses me off. I want the International version with the trackpad. Not some weird custom US version with a search button that no one uses and all kinds of weird carrier specific applications pre-installed. I hate the way the US carriers operate. You should buy a phone then pick which carrier you want to use it on.

I just pray that T-Mobile doesn't customize the hell out of their version.

Weird applications? You are probably gonna root and install a custom rom over it anyway. And even if not, I don't know of any character specific applications that even impact the phone. The Touchwiz skin is on all versions regardless.

Same here. I was waiting to see what HTC had to offer, but since they still think its 2010 with their AWFUL lineup, this will be my new phone and i get to keep my 15 unlimited ATT plan since they wont recognize The GS II

They can still see your data usage.

That has no affect on it. I have an unlocked phone now and I usually use 2GB of data a month. They can only tell what phone you have if its one of theirs. Unlocked phones from Europe don't show up on their system as a smartphones.
