Galaxy s2 shuts off almost everytime i put it down

my phone is only a few months old, its a samsung galaxy s2 4g.

every time i lay it down, with any drop whatsoever it shuts down, sometimes it just restarts itself and sometimes it shuts right off. the phone has also been getting worse and just acting strange. there has been no water damage. I did a reset and erased everything and it helped for like 2 days and then started to act odd again. is this a battery issue? i can take the phone in for repair, but i just wanted to see if there was an easy way to fix it myself?
