galaxy s2 skyrocket and straight talk

Since my post on August 5, I've been experiencing a lot of data issues and MMS issues with a locked Skyrocket i727 (at&t)on Straight Talk. Sometimes the data just does not work, it just stops. But when it works it works really well. Is anyone else experiencing these problems? Does anyone have any suggestions to alleviate these problems? would unlocking the phone help? I rooted the phone with Odin. It's on gingerbread 2.3.6, does anyone think upgrading to ICS would help? I really need some help! Thanks

how did you activate a galaxy s2 skyrocket with straight talk without unlocking the phone and what sim do you need?? please help
