Galaxy S20+ notification sounds from Verizon SMS Message+ and Gmail no longer working

On my Galaxy S20+ no matter what I do I can't get the notification sounds for SMS Message+ and Gmail to work anymore. I can only hear the notification sounds when my AirPods are connected to the phone. I don't even hear any sound when selecting a notification sound. Last thing I want to perform is a factory reset.

Probably sounds silly but have you checked the volume is turned up when using the phone speaker?
