Galaxy s3 game hiccups.

So games on my s3 tends to hiccup. I'm not really experiencing any lag, but every now and then (maybe every 30 secs - 2 mins) the screen will stop moving for a second or two. Meanwhile the game is still running, including audio. This happens not only with resource intensive games, but most every one. It may, however, occur more frequently with resource hogs.

Not sure if this is to be expected (with the dual core North American version) or if it's abnormal and/or fixable (preferably without factory reset, rooting, etc.) Not sure when this problem first occurred, but it either was always liked this, or started happening pretty soon after I got the phone.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nope. The problem is different than the one you see when playing with power saving mode on, where it's just choppy.

You can try going into Developer options and making sure all of the graphics related settings are off and see if that helpsuploadfromtaptalk1369680702157.jpgSent from my rooted, debloated, deodexed Sinclair ZX-80 running CM -0.001 using Tapatalk 2

Are there any games in particular you have this issue? Or is it all resource intensive games?

Happens with most games. But it may be happening more frequently with resource intensive games. An example of a game that runs just fine is spider solitaire, a very light game obviously. Games that I don't think aren't the biggest resource hogs, such as super stickman golf, experience this problem. And more resource intensive games such as vector suffer from this more frequently.

Thanks, I'll give it a go and post results.

Not sure why you mean by running in the background. If you mean multitasking, not much. If you mean the apps that show when you long press the home button, there's anywhere from 5 to 10, but most of them would've been closed.

Oh, my mistake, I don't think this occurs more frequently for more resource intensive games. Happens at a similar frequency. However, I do see a frequent slowdowns that last about a second in games like vector. And now that I'm paying more attention I think I may have overstated the original hiccup issue I mentioned. It doesn't happen nearly as often as I had said.

What I mean is do you have apps like Skype, steam or system monitors that are always running.

Hmm not that I can think of. I did have avg antivirus for a bit and then avast for a while. But I haven't had an anti virus program running for a couple of weeks now. As far as system monitors go, I only use them once in a while for troubleshooting and then delete them afterwards. I do have battery widget reborn.

P. S. Developer options didn't help either.

Well, I hate to suggest it, but since there are any number of possibilities that could be causing this, I think a Factory Reset is in order.
If you use an alternate Launcher (like Nova Launcher: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher) you can backup/restore your desktop settings. And if you use something like:
Call Logs Backup & Restore: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore
Easy Backup: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.mdroidapps.easybackup
Helium: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
MyBackup Pro: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro
SMS Backup & Restore: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
it'll be relatively easy to restore important content.
I wouldn't recommend restoring your apps/data (but definitely back it up using Helium), since that may put you back at square one.

Oh god. I may wait for a more serious issue to arise then, since I don't play games all that much on my phone. Would be nice if games ran smoothly when I do wanna kill some time, but I can't possibly justify a factory reset based on my usage. Thanks for the help. Still hoping someone who has come across this in the past may know of a solution.

I also get hiccups, especially on games like temple run. It really pisses me off when I die after 1 million points because of a hiccup
