Galaxy S3 Having wifi Problems After 4.3 Update

Have tried the *#0011# solution, restarted my phone and am still having the same issue. My Galaxy Note 2 will only connect if I am within 3 feet of the router. I am in the lounge on my mac air and no probs. Was all fine until 4.3 update...surely there is a tech out there who can help!

It would be rather unusual to have signal strength issues just from the update to 4.3, but I suppose anything is possible. Your best bet is to reload the firmware from scratch - you can either use Samsung Kies software or a tool called Odin to reload the firmware.

Kies (just Google it - look for v3) will handle getting the correct firmware from online and installing it; if you go the Odin route you'll have to download the correct firmware yourself.

BTW, Kies is also a good solution to backup your information before proceeding with this.

I'd also recommend a Factory Reset and clearing the system cache immediately after loading the firmware.

I know it may sound crazy, but I just had the same problem since the update appeared. Tried to solve it by myself but I did not find any logical reason. So I went ahead and disabled my internet app, then downloaded chrome. For me it seems to work. I'm testing this solution with other wi fi nets, I'll be verifying if everything is ok and I'll let you all know.

I'm having the same problem since the update. I have an SGH I747. I'm only having the problem with small household type routers (home and work). The networks at the public places I have all still work fine. The error message says the speed of the router is too slow. If I reboot the router, it works for a while to several hours. I know several people with the S3 who are not having the problem after the update. I wonder what the common denominator is? I would think the android people would be wanting to come up with a solution but I don't see one. My data usage has spiked since this happened. What a disappointment!

I have same problem as you mentioning here, what is the solution ? i am fedup and want to get rid of it if there is no way out.

Which 'same' problem are you referring to? There's a variety of different problems listed.
Perhaps if you gave us some specifics (model number/carrier; firmware version; problem description; what you've already tried) we could be of assistance.

Samsung said" nothing wrong with device..so,,maybe software.." I need to try reflesh entire phone at bestbuy..some bestbuy don't have Samsung service center,,u need to find one they have "center"...now I will try to do that for my last bet..." do not try re-set by ur self" it will never work....believe me....not sure they will charge me money for this problem...whatever ..it is worth to try...because my data is over and I will need to pay extra to use 4g...dammnn... unfair...I will let u know if mine get fixed...good luck guys..give me few days..i will be back....guys please cheer for Korean Soccor team ...hahaha I am from Korea...gogogogo

well..guys..bad news..I reflesh my phone,,,i thinks it is got worse...damn,,,att...I will have to wait for my contract is over by sept.. and will change to note 4...note 4 is coming at least by oct...bye!!

I am having the same issues.
1. No WiFi connection from previously reliable at-home routers. The S3 sees the routers and says it is connecting, but then message is displayed "WiFi [or router] turned off." But that is untrue: my iPhone and laptop can still connect to the router without problems. Router is on.
S3 phone can connect to public Wifi at cafes, but it disconnects quickly. This may be due to the number of devices on the Wifi, but I am unsure.
4G data usage is way, way up and I wish it weren't. Would love to get back to "free" WiFi data access. Without WiFi I will use other devices to connect to the Internet and will use my S3 less and less frequently.
Very disappointing.
2. Camera stopped working just after the update. I fully charged the S3, and rebooted, and now it seems to work fine. Spouse may have performed some "magic touch" combination - not really, but when spouse touched my phone, the camera started to work as if there were no problems.
2a. Some photos from the camera were unable to be downloaded into iPhoto on Mac. This problem was never seen before. Message from iPhoto says images are in "invalid format", and lists the images with filenames and a .jpg suffix. My workaround is to email the images to myself and download them to my laptop, then import into iPhoto. Workaround solves the problem, but it's frustrating to have to take several steps instead of just one step.

Did this and got "cannot open file". I'm so annoyed with this crap!!

You're going to have to be a little more specific - which 'this' are you referring to?
What particular step were you on when you received that error?

Perhaps if you started with your problem description, when it started and what you've already tried?

I have the same connectivity (or not) problem with my Galaxy S3 becoming unstable in its attachment to wifi. Initially Virgin Mobile told me to do a factory reset which would solve the problem. about a month later it recurred and Samsung technical dept gave the same instruction with details of the steps required. Once again problem solved - for all of 3 weeks.

Can anyone tell me if there IS a 'proper' fix for this issue so that it will not keep recurring - or is this a case of Samsung having released a crappy upgrade and we are going to have to wait for the next (hopefully) to see the issue resolved?

This thread states an apparent problem with the 4.3 update to JellyBean. Have you updated to 4.4.2, KitKat? This update has been out for a couple of months now.

I had the same issue. I tried the disable wifi-power saving and making sure my wifi setting were optimal.
Turns out my problem was with Sprint's Connection Optimizer. I turned that off and my wifi problem was fixed.

It's under settings > Connections > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Connections Optimizer > Uncheck the box.

I started having the same problems with my wifi connection 2 days ago. I found one solution that helped immediately:

Go to Settings >
Wi-Fi >
press on your connection for a second, a pop up will appear with the options "forget network" and "modify net configuration" >
select - modify net configuration >
select - show advanced options >
minimise the keyboard >
select - IP settings >
Select - Static
Now enter the settings below (make a note of the ones already there in case you want to change back)
IP - 192.168.1.253 or 195.168.1.253
Gateway - 195.168.1.1
NPL - 24
Netmask - 255.255.255.0
DNS 1 - 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8
DNS 2 - 4.4.4.4
And save.
Press the Home button and now try to connect.

Just wanted to say I had the same issue and ended up turning off the smart network switch option off under the WiFi settings. This allows the signal to automatically switch between WiFi and mobile network. So far this has resolved my issue and for the first time in a long time my phone automatically connected to my WiFi

Hey!
Im having issues with my wifi aswell. I just upgrade my samsung galaxy note3 through odin. I have the Kitkat 4.4.2 version now, the reason i upgraded my note3 was beacuse of the wifi issues. The signals are only strong when im standing 3 feet from the router but when im in another room , the wifi signals are low or none, meanwhile my sisters mobile has full signals in the same room ( she have galaxy s3).
I have tried EVERYTHING, all the changes in wifi settings, the *#0011# method, factory restore, changes in routers wifi settings and so on. I need help.. is there someone who have any other idea?? how can I fix this problem??

If the problem started after an earlier update and hasn't been fixed by the latest update then either the updates were the source of the issue, or you coincidentally encountered a hardware problem.

You could try using Odin to roll all the way back to the last build that worked, or you could contact your local carrier or Samsung directly.
