Galaxy S3: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

Ive had the same problem and it turns out it the noise your phone makes when it trying to connect with another device to transfer data, to turn it off go to settings, select more settings, turn off NFC under File/Data Transfer. Hope this helped :-)

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

turning off NFC seems to have resolved this incredibly frustrating noise. Thank you so much

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

I had this problem, turned out to be a text message that had failed to send. After deleting the offender no more regular rings phew!

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

In my Nexus S the culprit was the weather clock app.
I was installed the app called Transparent Weather Clock.

Under the Notification settings of this app, Location Changes, Location Updates, Weather Updates, Notify on manual updates ( All these are play a sound when changes) were checked.

When I unchecked all these the mystery notification sound stopped.

Thank you thank you. Driving me crazy till I came across your post and I just cleared the cache and bingo!

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

After needing to mute my phone completely lest I blew my brains out, I'm trying setting NFC to off. I'll return to this conversation if this doesn't work.

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

mine was related to Google Now cards popping up... there was an easy way and settings to turn off the notification tone. Update: Issue still presists

Re: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

Did you ever find a solution to your unwanted ring? Mine emits a single ding. I can't figure out what triggers it. It only rings one time, one single "ding." You described yours as a two-tone sound. Maybe there's a different culprit behind your rings and mine?

This happens if you've changed your password to any of your apps, or google. On the top of the screen are all your notification symbols. Drag down, and you'll see a list of your errors, or updates required. Once you update everything, the sound goes away.

I have determined that Outlook is the issue. I get a single vibration every time I get an email even though I have both notifications and vibrate unchecked in the settings. Any ideas?

Could it be the Accessibility > Notification Reminder Option?

Wow, this was the cause on my Note 3. It "mysteriously" started doing this about every 5 minutes or so. It was using the default notification tone. Sure enough, I accidentally turned that on. What the purpose of that is, I HAVE NO IDEA!

Anyway, THANK YOU for posting that. I believe it has solved the mystery.

Yes turning off
Settings / Accessibility / Vision / Notification reminder
was the answer to the seemly random notifications on my new Galaxy S5.
It took a long time to discover that this setting was the answer.

Fyi, which sound is used by the above is set at
Settings / Sound / Notifications ....... I think setting to Temple Bell is fun (for now)

And actually now that I have control of what I thought were random notifications I think the feature may be useful at certain times.

This thread saved my sanity.

Okay, it wasn't that bad, but it was really annoying to be getting that beep-boop ringtone all of the time with no indication of what it meant.

I totally agree with the assessment of Yahoo mail and its settings.

Thanks to everyone who posted these answers. It's still helping two years later, which probably says something about Y! Mail. :-/

This was the solution in my case. Thanks for pointing that out. Really I would have expected
it just reminded **if** there where messages...

My dad's Nexus 7, running os 4, does this and it's about to drive him crazy. I followed the instructions here about NFC and turned it off, so we will see what the result is. Thanks, Bronia. I hope it works.

So happy you posted this and the resolution despite no one responding. I was losing my shyt today trying to stop that ringing.
I googled the issue and your post was at the top of the list. You saved my sanity. Thanks you .
