Galaxy S3: Mystery, Reoccuring Notification Sound

Thank you so much - yes it was the NFC trying to connect sound that keps osounding frequently for me. I've switched off NFC and stopped the sound. Just a shame I now have to switch on NFC to use it, rendering NFC useless . . .

My Galaxy S5 has been doing this notification sound at random times during the day and night. It wakes me up 2 or 3 times each night. It's a little 3-not marimba riff that's not on the phone's list of tones. There are no notification pop-ups associated with it. I've spend several evenings scanning forums. I've blocked notifications on every app I have, and disabled a bunch that came with the phone. I checked every possible source mentioned in this thread. I don't have Yahoo and my NFC isn't on. In desperation I asked a guy at the Verizon store; he thought it might be a notification that the phone's connection is changing microwave towers, but he couldn't tell me how to make it stop. Anybody got any more ideas?

My friend keeps hearing this very quiet, noise... like beep bop beep! Every do often, sometimes just the once... others a few of them.
Samsung galaxy neo 5 with Vodafone, we're 7 the UK
. I've heard it, week or so from new!
Called Vodafone they said turn off all notifications. .. duh why...? She won't know when anything us there. So, she did... noise still happening.
They said. Bring it in, well repair it. BAre in mind this is now 3-4 weeks from new!
2 weeks later she collects phone. In repair notes it says Factory reset done... wtf.
The very next day. Bing blog bling! I was there argh!
Called them, well just do factory reset. I took phone and said. So, every time she heats this your solution is. Factory reset.? Yes.
I pipes up. This is unsatisfactory! She will be taking this further. Hangs up!
SO today, I am meeting my pal for lunch!
We will try (she doesn't use yahoo apps)
Also, remember phone is on... what it came with /as.
I'll report back!
(If it was me, I'd be demanding another Samsung!
Speak soon folks! Sue

Okay.... I'm not sure how anyone is going to actually help me, but I figured I'd share my recent annoyance. For weeks now, when the phone volume is not on vibrate/mute, my phone keeps making a mystery notification sound. The best I can describe it is a two tone ding/dong that lasts about a second. There are no notifications in the notification bar in conjuction with the tone - it happens when I have notifications i haven't addressed and when I don't. It happens when the phone is plugged in and when it's not. It doesn't happen at the same time everyday. Sometimes it happens twice in a span of 20 minutes. It does not happen in conjunction with recieving a text message. It's not related to a low battery. It interrupts listening to music via the stock headphones (music resumes after.) I've checked the standard notification tones and it doesn't match any of the ones listed.

The only way to stop it is to turn my phone to silent/vibrate. I'm thinking the culpret is a rougue app but I have no idea where to begin finding which app it actually is.

Has anyone had an issue like this? I have the Sprint variant.

Thanks for any guidance.

Mine is doing the same thing and has been fir a week or so now its frustrating and annoying and us continuing while i write this message!! Does anyone know how to stop it yet?

Tried every advise here, unsuccessfully. Then, I went to Settings | Sounds and Notifications | Sounds and changed the Default Notification to Silent! Voila! Three weeks of frustration came to an end!

Guys:

I have the same problem, and it is reproduced after a change of phone: new phone, same annoying sound.

I don't have any Yahoo application, but I've configured the Yahoo mail through Gmail. I am starting to think that in fact the problem could be related with the security configuration of the yahoo mail: maybe an outdated or an incorrect email certificate. Any ideas?

repairing is not the solution, I swear it. I have changed the whole f**ing phone and the sound is the same, again. Moreover, I've carefully avoided to reinstall automatically the applications, and the problem remained.

I've been having the same trouble and finally found the cause:
TWC Wifi Finder app was the culprit. (Many cable companies have similar apps to notify you when you are in range of one of their free hotspots.)
It seems my house is within range of a free TWC hotspot and the app was upset that I was connected to my own wifi. Anyhow, I turned NOTIFICATION off in settings and my phone has been comfortably quiet since.
I know this is only one possible cause of many, but hopefully it will help someone.

Welcome to Android Central! There have been quite a few suggestions and solutions in this thread -- have you already read through it and excluded all of them?

I also have the same recurring sound which is irregularly regular in my Galaxy iPhone. Really annoying as I too have checked all the sounds and notifications, to no avail. Please help
