Galaxy S3 rebooting by itself

If you are running live wall paper, it will cause the self reboot. Symptoms are:
Self reboot, self-shutdown, sluggish responses, sluggish touch screen, crashes, slow app start, lock up.

Remedy: Change to static or regular wall paper.

My case: Galaxy S3, i9300, Android version 4.1.2 . I experienced the above symptoms until I changed to static (non animating or live) wall paper. Removing the battery and closing all running apps don't help.
My wife's case: S3, SGH-T999, Android version 4.1.2. When waking her phone, it showed split screen: left side with Dandelion screen, right side with PIN entering screen. I changed hers to the regular or static wall paper, the problem went away.

Hope this helps.

I don't have live wallpaper and have the same issues on my phone.

FishenFool,
Without knowing any more about your problem it's difficult to make a suggestion:
- How often does the phone restart itself?
- Is there something common about the occasions when the phone restarts (ie it always does it when you're texting)?
- What have you already tried to resolve the problem?
If you haven't ever done a Factory Reset you may want to start with that - and don't reload the whole Play Store afterwards; just use it "clean" and see if the problem reoccurs.

+1 patient to your hospital.
Stock S3 on 4.1.2, no root. First reboot happened when I launch Foursquare (reproduced 100% times), now occasional. But almost always when turn on WiFi or launch app manager.

Gents,
I'm afraid that s3 is a waste of money. I'm facing the same reboot and freezing problems and tried all possible solutions in vain. Installed applications should never be the excuse of such issues, my friends have iPhone 4 since years without any problem. I'm really afraid that s3 is really a waste of money :(

Then buy an iPhone, if you think that will make you happy. There are millions and millions of happy S3 owners, though, so I really don't think the problem is the phone. FWIW, I know iPhone owners who have issues with their phone, too.

I'm amazed people really take the time to join a forum not to seek help, but just to complain.

My restart issue is totally random and is more of a minor irritant than a major issue at this time so don't want to wipe the phone and start from scratch. There is nothing common about the times it happens and it usually occurs when I am not using the phone and the only way I can tell it has happened is because my keyboard has changed from SwiftKey to stock Samsung. Sometimes it also powers off instead of rebooting and then requires a battery pull to start up. Made me think the battery might be a little loose so wedged a tiny folded strip from 3x5 card at top of battery. Seems like it doesn't happen as often but still does from time to time.

How often does it happen - once-a-day; once-a-week?
It's really strange that it's crashing the OS in such a way as to corrupt your default keyboard setting. You could try rebooting into Recovery mode and clearing the cache. Or clear cache/clear data/force stop/uninstall/reinstall SwiftKey.
Do you see any unusual battery usage pattern for any of the apps?

I must insist that application bugs SHOULD NOT... NOT cause system reboots.
It is the place of a COMPETENT Operating System to isolate and manage Aplications.
An App crashing a system is the fault of a BUGGY OS... in this case Android!
I suggest that Google get with the program before I (and others) become disillusioned w/ them.

It may not be Google's fault, but carriers. Unless these S3 devices are running Vanilla Android, there is a carrier skin over them. Any one, or combination of the bloatware apps with third party apps could be causing this issue as well.

Buggy apps can crash vanilla Android, too. For that matter, buggy apps can crash the iPhone, too. But save your breath. Haters are going to hate, and nothing will convince these folks that they're wrong. Let them head off to their happy dreams with Apple, and their fantasy that iPhones never crash.

It's not corrupting my default keyboard setting. This is a known issue with Android 4.1.1 and where Google Play Store places paid app files.

Did you root, or attempt to root, your phone? Did this start during, or right after, an update from your carrier, or right after you deleted some apps or made changes in developer options?

Can you boot into recovery? (pull the battery to make sure the phone is off, then reinsert the battery but do NOT turn the phone on. Press and hold, all at the same time, the volume UP, home and power buttons. When you see the Samsung logo, release all three buttons. If this works, you should see a menu. Use the volume up and down buttons to select Factory reset, then press the power button.

My wife's S3 reboots several times a day. Almost every time she sets it down it reboots. It has been going on for about 2 months (she's pretty patient...I would have returned mine within a week). We have done a factory reset, the store we bought it from did a factory reset (and claim it is an OS-update that needs to occur). I have done a battery pull and even swapped batteries with my S3.

Any suggestions? Basically I am looking for suggestions to try before demanding a warranty replacement (the store wanted to charge me $50 to do so).

You could try jamming a piece of folded up paper between the battery and the back cover, just to be sure the battery isn't getting jarred when she sets it down. Or even some of that double-sided stick tape.
