The problem is most likely with your screen assembly - you just need to get that replaced.
If you can't find one under $100 it may be more cost effective to apply that money towards a new (off contract) phone.

Hi what you had explained about the screen remains black but the phone vibrates and the LED lights up. May I ask what is wrong with my phone?

It sounds like the AMOLED display has gone bad (perhaps it's been dropped too many times?) or somehow became disconnected.

Yes I dropped it in the street and it stopped working from there. What is the amoled? Do you know the price it will be to have it fixed/replaced?

AMOLED refers to the display portion of the screen assembly (there's a digitizer on top of the display that records touch, and glass on top of that which protects everything).
It's around $130 for a new replacement screen assembly:

but you can probably find used parts cheaper on eBay, etc.

The same exact thing happened to my SIII on Friday. The screen would turn on (light up) but I couldn't swipe past the unlock screen. It didn't respond to any touch on the screen. First I took the battery out for 2 minutes per the manual. I then tried the factory reset, per instructions from Samsung. Nothing worked. I had to send my phone back to Samsung for repair. This seems to be a major issue with Samsung SIII & S5 phones from what I've been told.

Hello, I need help with the problem mentioned in this thread.

At first my screen was cracked, but the digitizer was still fine.
So I was being curious, where I could use TowelRoot to root my S3, I decided instead to use Odin and CF Auto Root (Both were for GT-N7102) but I guess I wasn't thinking and decided to root using the above mentioned files. It rooted (I think), then just as it was suppose to reboot, the Samsung splash screen came up, glowing, then the screen kind of went haywire and the kind of blue screen that would appear on a Windows came up on my S3.

So I did some research and found out about different Odin versions for different Samsung devices including it's CF Auto Root. So I downloaded the correct files and format/cleared whatever option that I had and tried again.

All went well, managed to root with CWM based recovery v5504 :: CF-v1.5, now running cm-12-20141230-UNOFFICIAL-i9300, also I've had the screen repaired. But still the screen doesn't respond to any touches. And seems like the back and menu button functions have been swapped. I tried looking for a solution but am unable to find one. Please help. That was my only daily driver.

I fell in sea with my note 3 in pants may be about 2 or 3 seconds. Afterwards I dried it up in AC and turned it on. Everything works except the display. Even the touch is working. Kies also recognizes it so I backed-up all my data. Is there anyway I can factory reset it or do any recovery with or without kies ? Do I need to replace the entire LCD screen with housing ? Please answer me.

Hello, I have a similar problem.... I was able to replace the LCD for 5 S3s till now.. haven't faced any problems till now... but lucky or unlucky that i had to change my own phone's LCD and did it successfully for the first time with a normal double side tape.. yesterday i received my LCD back adhesive .. then i again removed my LCD cleaned the back and pasted the LCD back adhesive .. here starts my problem.. LCD looks good.. display is fantastic and all the buttons work.. except the TOUCH...

Also just noticed that the phones behaviour is bit weird as.. it is showing carrier signal with out a sim card...? and detects WiFi.. even after removing the WiFi cable connection.
I cannot do a factory reset as my i have some important data in it and screen is locked .. so unable to take a backup...

Kindly suggest on how to fix it.

I have the galaxy S4 and I was having a problem with my phone because I accidentally dropped it and the screen cracked and upon trying to fix the screen with the replacement one I ordered that came in the mail today I damaged the LCD because I wasn't being careful enough. I was trying to replace the screen without having to replace the LCD too but anyways since the phone is pretty much of no use I took it to a repair shop but they won't have it ready until Monday at the earliest.

I wanted to ask: When you replace the lcd on your phone do you lose all your files and things that were on your phone? Or do you still have access to them all after the repair is done? I failed to back everything up before giving them my phone. I don't care if they see what's on my phone as I have nothing to hide but I just don't want to lose all my pictures and text messages.

I have tried everything suggested plus a few other things and nothing is working. Most of you are saying that if those things don't work then it must be a hardware issue and to get a repair or replacement. But do any of you find it strange that a ton of S3 users are having the same issue around the same time for no reason?

thanks for this info , i did a battery reset but the creen still wouldnt respond . So i tried one more time before a factory and it worked - My screen responds as normal now .

the phone is lighting up and showing the samsung logo but the touch wount simply do. i have removed the screenguard but i cant inout the pin. the backey however is responding
