Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

When the phone starts to boot up it's already blank?
You can try using Kies to backup your information, and then use it to perform a Factory Reset.

Re: Dropped my phone now Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

I dropped my phone. At first the phone still went on but the screen was not clear and had a purple tint to it with lines across the screen (almost like a blown tube on the old box televisions).
After trying to boot it several times, the phone goes on (Samsung logo sound can be heard) but the screen stays black.
I have tried all the solutions available in other forums and on this site.
Can it be re-paired or do I have to get a new phone? Will the repair cost be as high as a new phone?:-\

Ian,
Sounds like the screen is shot. The going rate for a replacement LCD/digitizer is $179 http://m.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-screen-assembly-replacement-white.html
It's possible that nothing is wrong with the digitizer portion of your screen, but from what I've read it's a difficult repair trying to separate/reattach the two, so your best bet is to get the whole assembly like I listed above (obviously, be sure to get the correct color for your phone - I just happened to list the white one).

Edit: BTW, I am not pushing that vendor, nor have I used their products - it was just one result returned when I did a Google search - YMMV.

Hi, my samsung s3 got wet a month ago, i was charging it, i didn't notice that there was a water on the table where i placed the phone, it seems that the phone absorbed the water...It will still turn on,i can still charged it, i can still see the information on how to set up my phone but it will not let me proceed, everytime i press the screen. the screen will not work. i have a friend friend( who is a little bit techy), he tried to open the back of the phone and tried to wipe the part that has water with a little cloth and a tooth brush but it didn't work still. Is my phone already defective? can this still be fixed without replacing the LCD or watveer??.. help PLEASE! thanks much..:D

My samsung note 2 dropped and the screen cracked. I took it to a repair store where they replaced the screen. Since then when I get calls and go to answer the touch screen does not respond. Also happens randomly when using the phone. Ill say it does not always happen but it is annoying when it does. There is no screen protector or case that would cause this issue. Soft reset did not help. Hope im in the right place.

As in, they replaced the whole assembly (digitizer + LCD; a couple hundred dollars)? Or they just delaminated the cracked glass and replaced it (fifty bucks or so)?
If the former, then perhaps you got a bum part.
If the latter, well - that's supposed to be a rather delicate operation, and I doubt that anyone but the manufacturer is really qualified to do it correctly.

In either case the repair shop that did the work is the right place to be.

My wife's s3 started the same thing today. Screen working but no navigational response. The phone still illuminates and vibrates when touching the soft keys. Tried the battery pull. Tried the hard reset. It's verizon brand btw. Found out it was flashed to cricket service then flashed back to verizon before purchasing. Someone mentioned a failed rom or flash earlier. How do you diagnose if that's what caused her screen to not function? I'm obviously trying to eliminate every possibility before spending money we don't have for a new digitizer. Thanks to all you veterans out there making my technological experience grow. If it wasn't for most of you, I wouldn't have these luxuries to share with my friends and family.

Bryan,
If the phone had been working fine for awhile then it's not the fact that it was flashed to Cricket and back to Verizon that's causing the problem. More likely the phone was recently dropped, or the screen got cracked, or something similar is what is responsible.

Do you have insurance? At a minimum, take it in to the local Verizon store and see what they'll do for you.

Although it's possible to delaminate the digitizer, that seems very iffy to me - if you can't get a repair/replacement through Verizon you're better off replacing the whole screen assembly (~$180) http://m.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-screen-assembly-replacement-white.html

Edit: just to cover that base, if you want to reload the stock Verizon firmware, you can use the Kies software on your PC. Let me know if you need specific instructions.

GSDer,

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to fix without spending any money. It was a very extravigant process. I downloaded a custom rom. Used cynogen. Installed on the s3. Touch screen responded after installation of custom rom. Then factory resetted so the wife could get verizon updates. Works flawlessly now. Must've just been an odd glitch with the software. I still don't understand why a hard reset or factory reset by itself didn't resolve the issue. But after loading custom rom the screen worked again. I must be one of those odd ball s3 owners. Lol. Thanks again for your advice.

My Galaxy S3 screen is just black. Everything still works. when I do the finger motion to unlock the screen I can hear it works and a the touch screen is still sensitive to touch but it won't go on... I can't see anything. Please help.

Tholwana, is your phone completely stock, or have you rooted and installed a custom ROM?

If you reboot the phone (if necessary, pull the battery, then re-insert and power up), do you see anything on the screen during the boot process?

What version of the phone do you have (i9300, Sprint, AT&T, or....)?

Treyvon,
How about looking at the previous hundred-or-so posts to see if any of the suggestions apply to your problem?

And a little more information would go a long way - model number, carrier, firmware version, when the problem started, what you already tried, etc.

What does it mean when you've dropped your galaxy s3 and now the display won'y work or the touch screen function doesn't work? the screen didnt break or anything its just the touchscreen and display that doesn't work..... Well, Basically I dropped my phone. At first the phone still went on but the screen was not clear and had a purple tint to it with lines across the screen (almost like a blown tube on the old box televisions).
