Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

Re: Dropped my phone now Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

hello all, i recently dropped my phone in a puddle of rain recently. It was submerged for 1-2 seconds, picked it up and it still worked. Got home and my touch screen stopped working. I borrowed a friends S3 and i swapped my board to her screen and its still not working ! I then installed her board onto my screen and it works. So I know my digitizer / LCD isnt broken and its my board. But all the buttons work (volume, power, back, menu, home button)

Now my question is, can I fix it still ? I honestly just need access to my phone to get all my pictures and files out. Since you need to unlock the phone before connecting it to your computer to get access.

Thank you so much !

Based on your troubleshooting you've narrowed it down to the board, but it's not clear what is malfunctioning.
Does the phone appear to boot normally (i.e. you hear the normal boot sounds)?
Once the phone is on, if you send it a TM or call it, does it give the notification audio or ringtone?
Can you log in to your Google account and locate your phone?

If these things are working then you can probably still get your information off the phone.

If you have an MHL<>HDMI adapter you can try connecting it to a TV to see if the screen is visible.

You could try the Kies software on your PC to backup your information.

If the screen is locked, and you enabled ADM, you can try resetting it through your Google account. I also read that you could use "Find my phone" on the Samsung website to unlock the phone.

yes, it boots normally and hear / see the intro.

yes, if i send a text or call the phone, it gives the notification audio / ringtone.

can you explain this a bit more in detail please ? i log in my gmail but cant seem to find an option to locate my phone.

i dont see why i need to connect it to a tv ? i can see everything on the phone itself, its just that it doesnt recognize when you touch the screen.

when i connect it to Kies, it asks me to unlock my phone first - but i cant since it doesnt recognize my touch.

what is ADM ? and how do i go about resetting it in my google account ?
i also went to the samsung website and cannot find the option to "find my phone"

also want to thank you for helping me ... thanks !!!

hi just replaced my screen and my digitizar is not responding would I have to factory rest it for it to program it or something?

My Galaxy s3 and s4 both have this problem I dropped it and the screen just went black. The phones appear to work (turn on, ring / vibrate when called, the LED light up when charging), but the screen stays black. My S3's model is SGH-T999 and my S4 is I9500 both from T-mobile. Please help!

cachun78,
You replaced the whole screen assembly (~$180) or just the glass layer?
You did this yourself or someone did it for you?
If you replaced the whole assembly, then either it's not connected correctly, you got a bad part or (less likely but possible) there's something wrong with the mainboard.
If you did it yourself it's time to take it apart again and make sure everything is connected properly; if someone else did it then take it back and get them to check it out.

A Factory Reset probably won't make any difference but it certainly won't hurt (other than nuking whatever information you have on there).

otejada10,
You should invest in heavy duty cases if this dropping thing is common practice - these things are still delicate electronic devices, and the screens in particular are fragile if subject to stress.

Since it sounds like the devices are still working and just the screen is broken, something like http://m.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-screen-assembly-replacement-white.html should get you up and running again (be sure to get the correct color for your phone, and obviously get the correct one for your S4).

I tried to root my samsung s3, And my toutch dont work. Please guide me to get to stock room:) exuse my bad English..

Stian,
You can try using the Kies software on your PC to reload the stock firmware. Here's an overview of what to do:
- if you don't already have the Kies software installed on your PC, download it (just search Google) and install it. The first time it runs it'll update itself to the latest version so make sure you run it once before proceeding.
- put your phone in Download mode: with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen
- connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone
-- if you've never had the phone connected to your Windows-based computer before, you'll see messages about installing drivers, etc - just wait until this is done (may take 5 or 10 minutes) [I don't know what happens if you have a Mac - it probably just works]
- in the Kies software, select the second item in the Tools menu and just follow the prompts to enter the model number (in CAPS) and IMEI/Serial Number (both found under the battery - it's ok to remove the battery at this point)
- the Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware for your phone from the Internet; once that's done (depending on your Internet connection speed) it'll begin downloading that to the phone (this probably takes 10 minutes or so)

Hello folks, my s3 touch screen suddenly stopped working but the display is clear with no defects, it has even no dead pixel. I usually leave my phone beside me in the bed but I didn't roll over it. The last thing I saw on my phone it is in critical battery state (2%) but when I tried to access my screen it won't respond. I usually use my phone heavily (heavy app processing, multi tasking)

Things I did:
My phone is running stock 4.1.2 (before factory reset)
I did cache wipe and factory reset
Full charged my battery to 100%
Pressure checked the screws if it was loose
NOT DROPPED, NO WATER DAMAGE
Weird liquid / oil(?) leaking out in the bottom part when I first opened the back cover, and some sticking in the back cover. I AM definitely curious about this if it has something to do with the touch failure.
No battery leak. I thoroughly checked the battery for any leak trace, none.

Functional parts:
System Recovery Console
Volume buttons ok. Power button OK.
Soft keys button ok. It's working perfectly on welcome screen from fresh factory reset (with water sound and vibration)
Home button OK.
I can do a screenshot from doing Power + Home button.

I purchased this phone in Spain, still under warranty but sending it back costs alot and takes time. Right now I am living in the Philippines. I am hoping I could find remedy on this as soon as possible as I need it for work.

Anybody can give me insight what's wrong about this? A loose connector perhaps?

Doesn't sound good - I can't think of any place that a liquid would come from other than the battery or screen - see post #135.
